Unable to hide file extensions or view hidden folders in Windows 10

(Firstly apologies if this is in the wrong location, I wasn't sure where to put it as there appears to be no "bugs" forum)

I've recently installed Bitdefender Total Security 2021 on my Windows 10 Pro PC, and after unhiding file extensions I find that I can no longer hide them. Nor can I see hidden folders through the File Explorer Settings window.

This wasn't an issue for me before installing Bitdefender, and from reviewing several Microsoft forum posts this is a "known issue" with Bitdefender dating back to 2014! (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/file-extensions-cant-hide/448158b1-1ad3-4225-aa7f-3557a3b7a054)

Is there a way that I can manipulate my Windows Explorer settings again on my PC to hide file extensions and show hidden folders or am I forever stuck with file extensions showing and unable to access my hidden files since installing Bitdefender?
