How does automatic permission for safe files work?

I'm currently taking a look at the safe files feature. However it seems like every application I tried so far gets added in the "application access" list with the badge "automatic permission". I can't find anything about that. When is an application automatically permitted? How do I change that in such a way that I must confirm the application's access?
