VPN Virtual Machine & Host LAN

I run a Windows 11 Laptop with Bitdefender VPN. At a host level this is all okay, I can browser the internet and connect to devices locally on my home LAN (in this case a NAS connecting over IP: \\192.168.x.x
I run VMWare workstation and I have a windows 11 VM again running Bitdefender VPN. I can browse the internet with no problems however I am not able to connect to the same NAS on the host's LAN (192.168.x.x) whilst the VPN is running. Turn it off I can connect.
Can someone help me understand the issue and what I need to do to resolve (turning off the VPN is not a good outcome).
