[resolved]update Options In Bitdefender 2012
Internet Security 2012's Limited Auto-update Options
I always try to keep a bare minimum of things running automatically behind the scenes on my computers, especially auto-updates for software. Software auto-update routines tend to activate themselves at the WORST possible times, and anti-virus software programs typically perform updates far, far, far more frequently than really necessary.
I've been using Bitdefender for several years, and I always leave auto-update turned off. (I have a very well-established habit of manually updating antivirus software frequently.) I just upgraded to 2012, however, and in 2012 it appears that the option to turn Update off simply doesn't exist. It's been removed. I can choose to be notified before updates are downloaded, but I can't stop the update dialog box from popping up on the screen ALL THE TIME.
Is there any way to turn Update off, or at least alter the frequency with which it auto-activates? Is there any third-party option? Or some sort of workaround? Anything?!!
Up until now I've been extreeeeemly happy with Bitdefender, particularly because, unlike most anti-virus software (Kaspersky, for example!) it tends to mind it's own business sitting quietly in the background, not intruding or poking around or interfering with any other processes or programs. However, I get very nervous whenever software is "improved," in such a way that advanced user options are reduced, usability is dumbed-down, and defaults which I can't control are put in place. (This seems to be the general trend in anti-virus software, and to be honest I can't blame the software companies-- most of their users aren't very technically knowledgable and they can catch the blame for that. But for those of us who do know how to use anti-virus software, and want more sophisticated options, the opton-reducing dumbing-down trend is quite frustrating.
Can anyone offer any suggestions, advice, or tips? Any help you can offer will be much appreciated!
Thanks!

BitDefender I am happy with it too. Bitdefender support and peoples are pretty good I suggest that You just suggest that they offer auto settings and technical full options too. Some have novice, intermediate, expert settings but I think full control, auto settings and full manual or something but if it could be catchy too in cool names for controls would be nice too. The beta was pretty nice but some settings hard to find like key loggers. You could suggest an interface. I might but then I'm a Java Programmer and would be working for them and getting paid. Bottom line BitDefefender support people are pretty good and if it makes sense they will probably accommodate good ideas.

I found the answer myself. There's no option to turn auto-update off in the Update screen, but there is one in the main program control interface.0 -
