BitDefender Theft Shows Wrong Address
I really need some tech support with this.
I have had BitDefender Total Security since 2012, updated every year and used BitDefender Central for the first time this morning.
I was looking through the features and clicked on THEFT and it showed an address 15 miles away that has nothing to do with me at all.
What does this mean and what should I do?
What address am I supposed to see?
Is this an address that trying to steal from me, or what?
I use a broadband dongle for internet access, so is this just where the connection is? There are two wifi masts nearby,
Thanks

Hello,
If you use Google Maps to locate your device, do you get the same address ?0 -

Thanks for the reply, but I don't know what you mean.
I am at home with my desktop PC. I know my own post-code and don't need to use Google maps to find out where I live. BitDefender Theft is showing a postcode 15 miles away. I looked up that postcode on Google Maps to find out where it is, of course.
I never take the dongle out of the house. Is it possible to use Google Maps to locate where my dongle is or something? Like, something on Google Maps that says "Find My Dongle" or "Find Me" or something?
Cheers!

So what am I supposed to do about this?
There are several options
Show IP, but that does not say if it is showing ME the other guy's IP or revealing MY IP.
Locate, but it does not say what that will do.
Alert, Lock or Wipe, but again it does not say what these will do and what the consequences will be.
After my experiences with Password Manager, I am reluctant to click on anything.

This is getting ridiculous as Anti-Theft is still telling me that my machine is 15 miles away.
And apparently, I can lock it or wipe the drive! If I did this, would it destroy my own PC, or some poor guy with the same name for his machine?
Or is it possible for my internet device to be cloned remotely or something, despite having had BitDefender for five years?
I am beginning to get quite distressed.0 -

Sorry, this is the first time I've used it, I think I understand now.
Yes, when I click on LOCATE, it pin-points an address 15 miles away and it's always the same address and the device is always on-line when I am. It even has the same name as my machine.

Yes i thought Bit was better than this. On opening Central i find that my 2 devices have 2 addresses in the Anti-theft. So can people believe this i, have two addresses one that is very near me, the other is 20miles away. So how are my devices stolen when i am sat here using them. Now i have not lost my mine but i may do if Bit have no reason for this. This is the first time i have used this forum so can some person please help me.0 -
The scary thing is if someone else had a machine with the same name, could he delete my hard drive!?
But while discussing with support by e-mail some of the other issues with recent builds not working properly, this came up and it's to do with the routing your signal uses, especially if it's a wifi (like mine).
So, although there are two large masts near me in my large city, it may get routed through some place south of the river, 15 miles away. Or it may be to do with the "junction box" for cabled broadband.
It does make you wonder, though, that if the device were to be stolen, how would they locate the miscreant if can be "pinpointed" only within a 15 mile radius?
"Gimmick", is my answer. I'd prefer them to spend more time squashing bugs and improving useful features and having first class antivirus, firewall and anti-spam etc. It's pointless changng the layout, format, configuration and adding daft features just to make a new version look "All New" if it's not working properly. My BD has not worked propely since about March 7th, 2017.

Hello. I think Sorin G. meant to say that you should locate your device with google maps or any other geomaps app.
Maybe BD draws address info. from google API or equivalent.
You could try on googlemaps or https://www.iplocation.net/ or http://www.ip2location.com/ .
If you get the same result as on BD, than voila that`s it.
I hope engineers are working to fix this problem.
Have a nice day!0 -

Actually it could be because of the your internet provider's adress or it's just google map's fault so check ip adress with another way.
Some free resurces for it: https://ctrlq.org/maps/where/
