Is there any benefit from using 10.x.x.0 or 172.x.x.0, or 192.168.x.0? Just curious is there are advantages of using one convention over the others?

    As long as they are identified by the IANA as private address subnets, there is no advantage.


    The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the
    following three blocks of the IP address space for private internets:

    10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
    172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
    192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)

  • For me, the advantage of using 172.* simply is that it’s different than my modem, which uses 3 IP addresses of its own. Easy to separate them by using 172.*


    Was happy that Box set this up automatically at install time. (Am using eero router mesh’s system in bridge modem).
