My wife received an email that looked to be from me, and used her name in a request for gift card details. I assume that replying (or even opening?) it would be a bad move? Can someone explain what is going on here and if we should be taking some security action?

I get those, too. As long as you don't reply or click on a link, you will be fine. I usually hover my mouse cursor over what I consider to be suspicious to check the address, then report it in Gmail as Spam. This thread, along with Alexandru's follow-up information, will be helpful.
