Virgin Media tells me I may have 'tinba' malware
On two separate occasions recently (February, then April) I have had notification from Virgin Media that a device I was using to connect to the internet is or may be infected with 'tinba', which evidently is some kind of banking-targeted malware.
Is tinba something Bitdefender will detect? Needless to say, it doesn't give me any notifications. I am sceptical about the report from Virgin, as is it couched in very equivocal language.
Thanks,
MarkH

Hello @Almost Aviation,
I am skeptikal about that message, but let's play along. Bitdefender should of course detect something like that, since 'tinba' is a known program that targets financial institution websites. Run a system scan first and see if Bitdefender finds anything. If it doesn't, you can also submit logs from your device to the antimalware team, for peace of mind. Simply follow the instructions from here:
Let us know how it goes and if your device is clean.

Thanks all. I am reluctant to take such prescriptive steps without knowing the implications, particularly as I'm not sure I even really have a problem. I won't, of course, be able to tell 'if the issue persists' for several months, since the only issue I have is these vague warnings from Virgin Media (see below). As I said before, a Bitdefender scan doesn't report any problem. I have generated a system log as suggested, but I'm not sure what to do with it.
I have also raised this with Virgin Media, asking if they can be more specific. Perhaps I will get a response from them in due course. FYI, the warning I get says this:
"We’ve been alerted that one or more of the devices you use to go on the internet is infected with malicious software (malware). We don’t know which device, but it does mean your personal data and online financial transactions, including any credit card purchases, could be at risk.
This probably isn’t your fault, but we do need you to make some changes now to ensure your data remains safe and secure. We’ll help you do that.
How we found the problem
To protect our customers, we work with a number of not-for-profit organisations that gather information about internet connections that appear to be at risk of things like malware infections. On 12 February 2023, one detected that tinba , a piece of malware, was present on a device using your internet connection."

Thanks, I will do that. Virgin has been unhelpful at providing any further information.
