License upgrade

Hi,

I currently have the Total Security license. How can I upgrade to Premium Security Plus without having multiple licenses in Central?

Greetings

  • Hello.

ONLY Bitdefender staff can have access to your Bitdefender Central account, your devices, your payments/purchases and/or your subscription(s).

You can upgrade your subscription by contacting Bitdefender Consumer Support (chat, telephone or e-mail):

    https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/help/

Chat is the fastest way to get in touch with Bitdefender Consumer Support.

Select: Purchase & Manage Subscription -> My Bitdefender Central Account, click on Contact Support in the black box and then click on Chat 24/7.

NOTE: Bitdefender telephone support is not toll-free!

    Regards.

  • Hi,

When you redeem an activation code in Central for a different subscription that the existing one, the new subscription/license will be activated in parallel, because the two are not identical. So, if the previous Total Security subscription still has some validity left, the two will overlap until one of them expires. The only way to go around this is to wait until the current Total Security subscription expires, then purchase Premium Security and activate it in Central in the same day. Once the previous license expires, all devices covered by it will be automatically allocated to the new subscription that can protect them, and no further action is required.
Bitdefender's configuration on your devices will be updated according to the active license in the associated Central account.

I hope the information is helpful.

    Regards,

    Alex

    Hey, buddy.

I think the OP was talking about upgrading the current Total Securiy subscription to Premium Security Plus subscription, which of course can be done while the Total Security subscription is still active.

    Regards.

  • Well, yes and no. 😄 It really depends on the status of Total Security. Because if they have only a few months validity left, I don't think the upgrade can be made free of charge and they will have to purchase a Premium Security subscription. If, however, they recently bought Total Security and require an upgrade, then yes, I think there are a few options, including a pro-rated refund, or a full refund of the Total Security if the purchase is within 30 days.

Generally speaking, it is best to avoid mixing up subscriptions, because there are some technical and financial implications there. But of course they can update anytime, it's just that they will have two subscriptions in the account and these will overlap until one expires. So, validity will still be lost on one of them, depending on which one is protecting the devices and which one is running 'empty' in this scenario.

But I think it's best for the Support teams to have a look and advise further on this one.

    Cheers

Well, basically, i already suggested that.

    😁😁

  • Well, basically yes, so good job on that. 😄👍️

  • I have been in contact with the chat.
The old license was cancelled and I ordered the new one.
Unfortunately, the old one is still shown as expired.

  • Hello again.

You need to reallocate ALL your devices to the new Bitdefender Premium Security Plus subscription, by following these steps:
    https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/34264/
At the end, don't forget to stop the auto-renewal for the old Bitdefender Total Security subscription, by following these steps:
    https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/29081/
Just follow the steps as described in Method 1, because some users in the past reported that the steps from Method 2 didn't stop the auto-renewal.
From my personal experience, Method 1 did and still does the job for stopping the auto-renewal.
    Regards.

  • Yes, thanks.
But it doesn't change the fact that the old license is still shown as expired.

  • That should disappear from there soon. Have you already cancelled the previous subscription?

  • Support via the chat has canceled everything and I also have a confirmation about it.

However, I still see the canceled license as expired in the account.

Apparently, it takes 30 days for the expired subscription information to be automatically removed from your account.
I think the logic behind this approach is that if the user decides to renew that subscription at a later time, they can do so from Central directly, but no later than 30 days after it has expired.

  • Ok, thank you.

  • I want to upgrade to the new Ultimate version. I have contacted chat support. A ticket should be created automatically and someone will get back to me. But I haven't received any confirmation of a ticket yet. Does that take time?

  • Hello @wheatfoxrabbit,

If you chose the contact form option, you will receive a confirmation with the ticket number after submitting your request. This will be displayed on a green banner on top of the Support Center page:

You should have received an email confirmation as well. Check your inbox and spam/junk folders, just in case.

    Regards,

I didn't receive anything. But I received an answer today. So something must have happened in the background.

A refund is unfortunately not possible because I got in touch a day too late.

Do I have to wait a year until an upgrade is possible?

    Feature request:
The license should be easy to upgrade in Central. ESET, for example, does this very well.

  • Hi @wheatfoxrabbit,

I'm sorry to hear this. Personally, I was unaware that your Total Security order was outside the refund term. Bitdefender offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, however, if this timeframe is exceeded, the refund can no longer be issued due to obvious accounting reasons, so technically speaking, the transaction cannot be reversed at this stage.

Can you share with us the reason behind the desire to upgrade to Premium Security? If there are any additional services that you would require, perhaps the solution would be to purchase them separately? Black Friday is coming up, so there will be some considerable discounts available soon. I know you mentioned the Plus version, so I have to add that this has been discontinued anyway, following the launch of the new Bitdefender portfolio which includes the Family plans. The Premium Security package is of course still available, but not the Plus version.

In regard to the antivirus provider you mentioned earlier, I think they may have a different business model which allows them to provide this option to their customers (I'm unsure if they sell their security products directly, if their shopping cart is managed by them or not). Bitdefender products are not sold directly, but in partnership with a vendor. 2Checkout (formerly Avangate, now Verifone) is the authorized vendor of products and services sold on the official Bitdefender website. This popular payment platform provides a secure and streamlined checkout process, making it easy for customers to make purchases with confidence. Verifone accepts a variety of payment methods including credit cards, PayPal, and more. Additionally, it supports multiple currencies, making it a versatile solution for customers all over the world who purchase Bitdefender products and services.

This means that subscription management is done by the vendor (billings, invoices, recurring payments, etc.) and in my opinion, upgrading to a superior product (or downgrading) during the subscription period is unavailable in Central most likely because this would require a whole lot of additional operations, calculations and automations that should be carried out in the background — the remaining validity for the current subscription, the type of subscriptions involved and the differences between them (number of slots, compatibility & protection levels, etc.) the price difference between the current and the new product (including any discounts applied), any automatic billings set for the current term, accounting flows and the list goes on, really.
Therefore, I think this is not something feasible in the current order of things, nor recommended, and I can imagine a lot of things going wrong with this scenario.

    Regards,

    Alex

  • @Alexandru_BD Thanks for your answer and explanation.

    Bitdefender
    Ultimate Security

    • Scam Copilot
    • E-mail Protection
    • Cryptomining Protection

I don't want anything separate. If so, then everything in one license.
Then I'll probably have to wait a year.

  • @wheatfoxrabbit just following up on this to tell you that I appreciate your intention to upgrade and keep Bitdefender as your cybersecurity solution. I regret to hear things didn't work out with the upgrade now, but Ultimate Security is here to stay and you can seamlessly upgrade to this package when your current subscription expires. Just make sure to disable the automatic renewal feature for Total Security beforehand, if enabled, since you will be renewing your protection manually by upgrading to a superior security suite.

    Thank you
