Strange IP address for google search domains under VPN

Hi,
I noticed that, under BITDEFENDER VPN, lately every google search domain passes by strange ip address:

This is the situation under VPN with nslookup of www.google.com and www.google.it

Here without VPN with nslookup of www.google.com and www.google.it

This problem doesn't occur with every other site (for example facebook.com)

Here under VPN:

Here without:

It seems like every single request to google search is passing by a server inside the network of BITDEFENDER's DNS.

I tried with another BITDEFENDER VPN account and the problem doesn't occur. This is my version:

Is there anyone with the same problem?

    So, from the VPN guys:

Bitdefender VPN configures customized DNS servers (private IP) in order to ensure the functionality of features such as:

    - ads and tracker blocking (relies on DNS domains)

    - we need to configure internal DNS for some websites:

     - google.com - to mitigate too frequent triggering of Google captcha

     - netflix.com - to make some necessary adjustments for unblocking content.

So there is no problem if you see private IPs for DNS servers while connected to VPN using Bitdefender app.

In short, the private IP is a hint/identifier to pass subsequent information to various components such as tracker, VPN driver etc. The DNS query is still performed using the real DNS servers.

    Hello.
You should contact Bitdefender Consumer Support by chat, telephone or e-mail:

Chat is the fastest way to get in touch with Bitdefender Consumer Support.
NOTE: Bitdefender telephone support is not toll-free!

  • Hi,
i already did but i was curious if someone else had the same behavior.

In my opinion, it looks like traffic to Google search domains passes through proxy servers for some VPN accounts.

I am no expert in VPN but let me as the guys doing it and come back with details.

  • @camarie thank you for your reply.
I confirm that even for Netflix.com is passing through internal DNS.

I think that this type of information would be public in FAQ to don't panic other people that look at this behaviour.

    Thanks for your support.
