  • I'm having the same problem, sometimes everything is fine but when "vsserv.exe" goes on its rampage everthing hangs and stops. I wish they could or would fix this bug. :wacko:<img class=" />

  • Same problem to me.

    What do I do? Any BD tech here? Cause I had the Internet Security from 2008, upgraded to 2009 and still the same thing. But I Still have 290 days left from my licence? Can I get a refund? Because I'm quiting Bitdefender. You're uncapable of solving thins problem from over a year, and worst of it, you don't admint you can't solve it.

    Hey,

    Iam experiencing the same problem with this process

    ending up with a parlysed pc

    please help

    ASAP

  • It has been nearly a week and I have received no reply. Not even any confirmation that they have received the debug files. I am not happy.

  • Add me to the list of users experiencing this problem. This is a very old thread and it looks like there is no fix.

  • Hello, I am having the same trouble with Vsserv.exe on my computer... it seems that everyone here received an e-mail about how to fix the issue so I have to write here to find out what to do. So if I could get a reply soon that would be greatly appreciated. Also, considering the high amount of people with this problem, maybe it would be worth your while to either post a solution here, or to add it to your key words on your help page. Thank you.

    Hey there !

    I have a technical problem and i would like to solve it. CPU usage @ 100% for 4-8 minutes, vsserv.exe causes this to happen.

    Thx!

  • Guess what? I have exactly the same problem as everybody else. I wish I had seen this forum BEFORE I wasted my money on a Bit Defender product. It seems to me there are sensible designers who design products for the real world, and idiot designers who design products that only work perfectly in the laboratory : everywhere else is too hot, too cold,too dry,too wet etc etc. Bit Defender are definatly in the "idiot" catagory. As there isn't (after all this time) a generic fix the conclusion must be it conficts with just about EVERYTHING. Sad thing is these "idiot" designers never accept a mistake and start again they keep trying to "improve" the bad design. My first experience of their product and for sure my last.

  • Add me to the list of people who have this problem and just found this forum.

    I agree it's obvious they have no clue as to what's going on. And telling people to remove all other security products is ridiculous - one of the basic tenets of good security is redundancy. Another is to not depend on a single product.

    We have bitdefender on all of our PC's, and all of them have the problem to one extent or another. But from what I've seen here, I'm going to be looking at other products in the very near future. Bitdefender's inability to solve the real problem for almost a year is very discouraging.

    By running more than 1 security programs at the same time will slow down the system considerably and even crash it.

    This happens because all security solutions try to scan a file whenever one is accessed but they cannot do it at the same time.

    You can test this for yourself with 2 antivirus programs both having real time protection.

    Also because you're running an older version of our product we recommend you to upgrade for free to BitDefender v2011.

    How come you just answer to the question about several protection programs on a system and not a word about vsserv.exe Can you please answer theses questions:

    1. Do you know what is wrong with vsserv.exe?

    2. Will It be fix?

    3. Can we get a refund?

    4.What protection (besides from bitdefender) do you recommend? (If you [not you personally but BD techs] still have a little dignity and respect for your tech job)

    Thank you for your answers.

    Hello,

    I will try to answer all your questions in the same order, hope my answer will satisfy you:

    1. No.

    2. Yes, it was already resolved in the new version, BitDefender 2011

    3. You can always request a refund by contacting my colleagues from the Customer Service Department. They can best answer this question as it depends on certain conditions.

    4. You can use another security solution along with BitDefender if that specific solution does NOT have a real time protection enabled. As few examples: SpyBot Search and Destroy, MalwareBytes or Ad-aware. However this is not recommended with BitDefender Total Security as all the features of the mentioned software are already included in Total Security. Last but not least, I can't recommend you another security solution similar to Bitdefender, it is against Company policy.

    NOTE: an upgrade to the latest version of BitDefender was recommended to you by my colleague Christian. Perform the upgrade (it's a free upgrade) and the issue you encounter should be resolved. Please read THIS topic on how to correctly upgrade to the latest 2011 version.

    I am 75% satisfied with your answers. Because if you solved the vsser problem on the 2011 edition how come you do not know what's happening previous editions. It just makes no sense, do you agree? You have to know what the problem is in order to solve it and as you tell me, you solved it that means that BF used a quite different code to write the program and so, you did not solve the vsserv problem, you're just proposing a new BD with no vsserv or something like that.

    Thank you for all the other answers, I will follow the guide to install 2011 and I really HOPE il will not eat all my CPU.

    Thank you again

  • Dear BitDefender Techincal staff.

    I sent you the debug files you requested a little over a week ago. I never received the courtesy of a reply even acknowledging their receipt, nor a reply on the forums to my queries. Strike one.

    Today, in response to a more recent posting than mine, I see you have suggested that another user upgrade for free to Bitdefender 2011. You stated explicitly that the vsserv.exe problem is fixed, which showed promise. It would have been much better practice for you to have handled forum and email queries in the order received. Strike two.

    I followed the directions to install BitDefender 2011. I updated the signature files, and spent an hour waiting for all the installation and updates to take place, then longer for the first scan to run.

    Almost immediately the CPU bogged down, and my task manager showed that as before, vsserv.exe was the culprit, hogging up to 99% of CPU resources. Strike three - you're out.

    I will uninstall BitDefender from my three PC's and hope the next product I try works better. Shame on you, BitDefender.

  • Hello,

    1. Open the BitDefender window, select Settings, then select the Expert mode in Switch UI and click on Apply and then on Ok.

    2. Go to the Update module and click on Settings;

    3. Select the boxes next to "Prompt before downloading updates" from Automatic and Manual Update Settings;

    4. Click on Apply;

    5. Restart the computer in Safe Mode.

    [How to restart in Safe Mode]

    - Restart the computer (Windows Start button - Turn Off - Restart);

    - Press the 'F8' key several times before Microsoft Windows begins to load; you need to press 'F8' until you will be displayed a text menu;

    - Select 'SAFE MODE' in the text menu and press 'Enter'.

    - Wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation message; click 'OK' to acknowledge.

    3. Browse to the:

    'C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2009' folder and search for 'as2core.dll'.

    4. Please rename it with a name at your choice and restart the computer in Normal mode.

    5. Test to see if the issue still persist.

    I have the same problem, which has been going on for some time now. I tried one of the fixes posted with no results at all. Can you please send me the info you have supplied to others? I use XP Home Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 3 on a Gateway Pentium 4 3.00 GHz 3l00 GB of Ram. My processor sounds like it's ready to take off, and sometimes I'm not using it when it happens. :mellow: I especially notice it when using graphic rich pages and applications, sometimes even Free Cell kicks it in.

    MsMpEng.exe also uses huge amounts of the memory at times, causing the loud whirring I mentioned. Are these two separate problems?

    I did check for the BitDefender file you suggested we re-name, but it is not present in a search and not visible in the Bit Defender file.

    This problem annoys my whole family. I appreciate any help you can give. Thank you so much.

    I'm running Bitdefender Total Security 2010 on a Win XP Home SP3, P4, 1GB Ram

    Can you help me to fix this problem?

  • I am having the same problem. I saw on this forum that tech support is recommending upgrading to v10 (I have v9 running on XP service pack 3). It appeared that if I simply uninstalled v9, I could install v10 and reuse my serial number (I have 3+ months remaining on my subscription), but it's not working. Do I need to ask tech support to please send me a PM with the right upgrade link?

    Thanks!

    Nevermind. I logged into my account on the bitdefender site and found a link by my registration number for "download kit". From there, it gave me the option to download v11. The installer accepted my old license key and I'm all set (until my original subscription expires). Although it took a lot of searching the forum (to no avail) and I accidentally stumbled across the installer link on the website, I am quite happy with how easy the upgrade was. Hopefully this message will help other users.

  • I can not believe this has been going on for almost 15 months now, without a patch or a fix. At one time BitDefender was the best, what a shame to let something go on for this long.

  • BTW did upgrading help anyone, I've only saw one response and that person said they were still having problems with vsserv.

    Regards,

    It looks like my last post is missing...

    Let me try again..

    The installation of the new new software went smoothly but it is having problems with updating.

    Each time I try to update the software, I get the message that it is unable to connect to the proxy or server.

    After I click finish another window comes up and says that Bit Defender had a critical error and needs to restart.

    I click on next and it restarts.

    The program seems to be working but it cannot update and each time I try to update it gives me the critical error message.

    I used the repair utility but it didn't help.

    On top of everything else, I am now getting random BSOD's.

  • Yesterday, I moved your post to it's own topic in the the 2011 forum since you are now having an issue with the upgrade.

    i give up!!!

    i'm using bitdefender now for several years and the problems with vsserv.exe are only increasing.

    i've read almost all forums about the high CPU issue and never found a decent solution!!!!

    i've tried them all.

    oh my god i'm using Windows XP, on an Intel Pentium 4 (2,26GHz) and only 3GB Memory...... Yes that must be it ;-/

    this really *****

    no i really give up 'cause you, and i mean the bitdefender people, only say that it has something to do with the computer hard and software BUT NEVER BITDEFENDER. No no that's not the right way to treat your customers.

    i give up!!!

    so bye bye have fun discussing this ******** issue.

  • One thing that definitely will help, set your automatic updates to 4 hours or 6 hours apart. This problem occurs every time after Bit Defender downloads latest updates and begins to install them, it helped for me. But I still can't believe BD can not fix this problem.

    edited October 2010

    Hi mark govaerts,

    In order to fix the issue you have, I would recommend you to upgrade for FREE to BitDefender 2011. Before going through the upgrade process, I need to know if this new version is compatible with your system.

    If you want, you can send me a PM with a Screen Shot with your system configuration or just tell me your general hardware specs (CPU, RAM, System Type...). In order to see your system configuration, right click on the MyComputer icon present on your desktop and choose Properties.

    How to take a Screenshot:

    1. When the window is on the screen please press the "PrintScreen" key ("PrintScreen" is located at the top of the keyboard, at right. At this step we can not see anything, as the picture is copied into Windows's clipboard);

    2. Open a graphic editing application (We recommend using the standard Paint program, that comes with every Windows installation (Start > Program > Accessories > Paint));

    3. Paste the picture in a new Paint document;

    4. Save the file in JPEG format.

    Thank you.

  • Running BD 2011. vsserv.exe consuming all avail cpu. Quick google found this thread. Very unhappy to learn this AV product is cause of DoS attack, and given the number of pages in this thread, has been well known issue in BD2009, BD2010, and now BD2011. Would have expected the product to find and resolve whatever issues needed to behave properly in the real world.

    Any estimate on when you will correct the undocumented DoS feature?

    edited November 2010

    Hi johnak308,

    Please tell me, where exactly did you see on our forum that BitDefender is causing DoS attacks ?

    Thank you.

  • Mihaela,

    You asked me to point out, exactly, where a DoS attack was mentioned. I see DoS on every page, in the topic description, and in the attitude of support staff.

    To date, there are 10 pages and 196 posts in this thread alone.

    DoS = denial of service

    vsserv.exe consuming all cpu making PC unusable for normal tasks = denial of service.

    Therefore, vsserv.exe = DoS.

    To my mind, the goal of a security tool is to protect a resource from threats and maintain availability. Sadly, for me and the other folks who posted here, BD's vsserv.exe interferes with normal operation and reduces availability, which exactly coincides with the goal of a DoS attack tool.

    One other comment: whomever runs your support organization should acquire and implement one of the many excellent customer service training programs. I recommend John Cleese's customer service videos. This one is a classic: " How to lose customers without really trying": http://www.enterprisemedia.com/product/003..._customers.html

    Please forward this to someone that can refund the unused portion of my BD subscription.

    Cheers,

    John

  • Switching to Norton 360, have ran it on 2 laptops for over 3 years with no major problems like this "vsserv.exe" it completely stalls even a duo core processor, one of my laptops only has a old single core Intel CPU with only a 1.5 GB memory Norton 360 has never slowed it down let alone stalling it out. What a tale, that they don't know whats causing it, I'm setting on mine. The only bad thing about Norton 360 is that it wants to do everything for you but BDIS 2011 is just as bad. BDIS used to be great, I don't know what happened. If they ever get this problem fixed I'll be back http://forum.bitdefender.com/style_emoticons/default/wub.gif
