MacOS security scam

My 83-year-old father received this MacOS Security warning in his Chrome browser on his mac about a month ago. He called the number and thankfully soon realized it was a scam.

I installed Bitdefender, cleared his browser cache, etc, and looked for bad extensions. We thought that solved the issue until he received the same pop-up yesterday.

Any idea how to prevent it from happening again?

It seems you are using Google Chrome. Below are the steps that might help you:

1) Reset Google Chrome web browser: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3296214?hl=en

2) On your Google Chrome web browser, use extensions like uBlock Origin ( https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en ) for ad blocking and Ghostery ( https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ghostery-tracker-ad-block/mlomiejdfkolichcflejclcbmpeaniij?hl=en ) for privacy protection. Be sure to go through every setting of these extensions and enable all filters for maximum protection.

3) Update your Bitdefender antimalware product and run a full system scan.
