Problem with downloading Bitdefender Total Security

Made my first Bitdefender (BD) purchase today (Total Security), registered on BD Central, and followed the steps there to download onto a first device — my laptop. Did this many times, but every time the result shown in Recent Download History was "Needs permission to download."

I'm pretty sure I have Windows 10. I know it's not 11.

I consulted BD's live-chat type help, which seemed like AI but seemed to understand what my problem was. At its suggestion, I unplugged my modem, waited 30 seconds, and plugged it back in, and also made sure my Windows wasn't set to allow only apps from Microsoft Store. Those things didn't help. The live-chat made another suggestion or two that I looked into but which were too involved and technical. I've restarted my laptop. That didn't help.

I'm not willing to spend much more time on this. If I don't find a solution soon, I plan to ask for a refund and try another AV product. But I hope someone here can help me!

Thanks!

  • Hello @Lee M and welcome to the community.

Can you tell me if you are logged on the PC using an administrator account?
And if you made sure Windows is not running in S mode?

I think the first step would be to ensure you are using an administrator account. Then, check if Windows is up to date. Furthermore, check if there aren't any other security solutions installed on that device (Bitdefender will identify them anyway during the installation process). I assume the minimum system requirements are met.

That's all I can think of right now. In regard to the chatbot, Bitdefender is constantly looking for ways to improve customer support through fast solutions when in need of an answer from our behalf. This is the main reason why we are currently testing a chatbot to provide this service. The chatbot is not here to replace human support but to complement it, ensuring you get the help you need faster. Whether it's answering questions or resolving issues, our bot is trained by our top technical writing specialists to provide accurate and helpful responses.
For more complex cases that require human intervention, our chatbot will seamlessly transfer you to a live representative. AI will help us offer immediate assistance and break down language barriers by communicating in your native language, regardless if someone from Bitdefender speaks it or not. This will allow Bitdefender existing and future customers to have faster access to help with questions or issues and swifter resolution time in their native tongue.

In the event the download issue you are encountering persists, I suggest to retry to contact the Support teams and get in touch with one of the engineers, as I'm sure they can help you out in good time.

Let us know what worked for you.
