Instable wifi connection keeps dropping

Hi since I got BD Mobile security installed my wifi connection keeps falling out multiple times a day. Keeps connected to WiFi but no Internet.
Solution is to disconnect WiFi en reconnect.

I think it has to do with Web protection, when enabled (what I want oc) I see the Web protection VPN gets connected. I don't use the BD VPN service.

Any known solution for this issue?

Thanks.

  • Hello,

Web Protection uses a special VPN to filter all Internet traffic by scanning the connections for malicious and fraudulent content, so it will trigger the VPN symbol on your iOS device when active.

Web Protection on iOS relies on a local VPN configuration. However, this is not a traditional VPN that routes traffic through external servers for masking IP addresses. Instead, it creates a local VPN tunnel that enables Bitdefender to intercept and monitor network traffic on the device. Once enabled, the VPN profile allows Bitdefender to analyze the traffic data going in and out of your device. It checks for any potentially malicious websites, phishing attempts, and other threats by scanning the URLs before the content is loaded in your browser.
Unlike a full VPN service, Bitdefender’s Web Protection does not redirect your traffic through external servers for anonymity or geo-spoofing. It operates entirely locally on your device, ensuring your data remains private and isn't sent to third-party servers for analysis.

However, I'm not sure if the Web Protection is actually causing the Wi-Fi connectivity issues you are experiencing..
I would check the router first, reset it, check how other devices perform while on that network and if they disconnect randomly as well, and of course check with Web Protection disabled.

  • Hi, I tested and its only on ios devices with BD Web protection enabled. Android or laptops no issue. Not a router issue.

  • I see.. have you tried switching between protocols in the VPN app? Just to test, until I can think of something else. I've asked around about this, will come back if I find anything.

    Thanks

  • I do not use the VPN app, just Web protection.
