How To Enable Autorun?

Are you really sure you want to do that? It's not a good idea.

"a generic mechanism to spread malware using flash drives, memory cards or external hard-disk drives. Some families of malware, amongst which is the infamous Downadup clan, use this approach to trigger further infections."
Autorun is the leading method for malware to spread, which is why BD disables it. It may be inconvenient to the user, but much safer.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I want to do that.

OK. With BD in Expert View, click on Vulnerability-->Settings and un-check the Media Autorun box. You may have to do a Vunerability-->Status-->Check Now to ensure that BD is no longer checking for the status of Media Autorun.
Change the Windows settings back to what you want in Control Panel.

Try this
Click Start and in the Search box, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
Now browse to Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ Autoplay Policies\ Turn off Autoplay.
To Enable: Change the value of Turn off Autoplay to disabled.
To Disable: Change the value of Turn off Autoplay to enabled.

Hi,
Thanks for the post ONT. It's an easy way of re-enable the autorun option.
@DarkShodan: I have also written an executable file to enable/disable this Windows option. If you can't follow the instructions ONT provided please reply in this topic and I will send you the file via email.

Autorun has been disable since I fixed "Media Autorun is enabled". Is there anyway for make it turn to default autorun setting again?
I tried Control Panel but it doesn't work.
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.
I have a similar problem but am using Vista Home Premium (32bit).
I have changed the registry keys back to their correct values and set the control panel settings to turn auto run back on.
Bit Defender has gone back to showing auto run as active (as i would expect).
Every setting which I am aware of is set correctly to enable auto run.
However... - auto run is still not working!
It won't work on either the DVD drive or my usb stick (which works fine on another machine).
I have tried everything I can think of to fix this - without success (spent close to 2 days on this so far)!
Is there something I'm missing here?

Hi DanyDan
Once I re-enable autorun feature by adding the key in Windows XP registry, but I'm also interested in that executable written by you.......waiting for your email now.
I also suggest for "Reset" option in Bitdefender for "Media Autorun".0 -
Hello,
I have attached the two registry keys you need to run in order to turn ON or OFF the Autorun option. Simply save the file, double click on it then click on YES to allow the key to be added into Windows Registry. You will see a pop-up like the one I've added in the post.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.

I finally fixed this by removing a folder from the registry:
At the end of the following registry path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion > IniFileMapping
there is a folder 'autorun.inf' (contained within the 'IniFileMapping' folder)
I deleted the 'autorun.inf' folder and rebooted.
This fixed the problem on Vista Home Premium and should work on XP too.

(I have a SanDisk USB drive and the lack of Auto Run was preventing it booting)

Hello,
John indeed an interesting post. Considering my post above with the two registry key to enable / disable Autorun and the second workaround you mentioned, I will make the topic pinned for all users to see as the question was raised quite often.
