Bit Defender Anti-virus 2010 Error

When trying to launch Photoshop Elements 5.0 I get the above error and will not launch, unless I "turn game mode on" which means real time protection is set to "permissive", popups and alerts are "disabled". All my other graphics programs work fine. Is there a work around this problem so I can be on the internet while keeping PSE 5.0 running? I am using Vista business version 32 bit. I also have to disable windows defender.
