How Turn Off Bitdefender To Improve Battery Life?
I got one of those netbooks with long battery life because in my line of work I am often in countries at field stations with infrequent electricity. Unfortunately, BD really throttles down my battery life, and I wanted to know how I can turn it completely off so that when I am not in a town on the internet, my computer does not have to think about it. I can see that I can turn off real time protection, but I can't figure out how to completely turn it off.

Hi
As the new Bitdefender 2012 product suite was released, we would like to inform you that you benefit from a FREE upgrade to the latest version.
Apart from the fact that the 2012 suite brings lots of new features and improvements, it will most likely solve any issues that you may have encountered with your previous Bitdefender product.
In order to upgrade to the new version, please follow the steps below:
1. Use our uninstall tool in order to uninstall/delete any previous BitDefender related files:
http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall
Access the link and when the window with the BitDefender file appears, please choose the "Save to disk" option. Save the tool on the PC, run it and restart the computer when prompted.
2. Install BitDefender using the latest installation kit available for download. Please note that you need to download (save) the installation kit prior to running it.
The BitDefender Antivirus Plus 2012 installation kit can be downloaded from here:
http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/in...r_antivirus.exe
The BitDefender Internet Security 2012 installation kit can be downloaded from here:
http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/in...r_isecurity.exe
The BitDefender Total Security 2012 installation kit can be downloaded from here:
http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/in...r_tsecurity.exe
The installer will automatically retrieve your license key so you will not need to enter it again during the setup.

Turning off the shield leaves you laptop vulnerable to malware. In the current situation, I recommend you to turn on Game Mode. Right click on the Bitdefender icon near the clock and and activate Game Mode. This will adjust setting in Bitdefender and the program will consume less resources.
Should you need further information, please do not hesitate to reply to this post.
Have a nice day.

Hi Christian, thank you for replying. I had not known that I was eligible for an upgrade.
I imagine that I will not have any issue with malware, as I will be in the Amazon which, as you may imagine, has limited access to the internet, and I have bare bones applications since it is a strictly field work computer. I would prefer not to uninstall the program as I will sporadically be going to larger towns with access to internet and would want it in these conditions, but I would prefer uninstallation over having such a drain on the computer's resources when our electricity will be limited. Is there any way to actually (temporarily) deactivate the program so that there would be no Bitdefender related processes going on in the background, or is game mode the only option for less pull on system resources next to uninstallation?
Thanks again.Hi

Hello
Welcome back.
Bitdefender has protection against malware and you can not turn it off for good, but you can turn off the real time protection.
But be careful, this is an open gate for malware, the PC is no longer protected then.
In Bitdefender 2012, click on Settings. Go to Antivirus -> Shield and turn off On-access scanning. Select the period and confirm the action.
Take care.0
