Excessive Hard Drive Activity (win7 & Bt2012)

Options

I'm using the 30 day trial of BitDefender 2012 on a Windows 7 64 bit. It's version 15.0.38. I like except for what I ~think~ is a performance issue. I can't think of what else recently changed that would create this sluggishness.

I've noticed that when I start an application, such as Word or SnagIt, my external hard drive will continuously churn. A program's services may show as being loaded in Task Manager, but the app doesn't show until much later. It takes minutes for applications to open. When the program does open, I often see (non-responsive) in the program's title bar. I've checked Task Manager and the CPU usage is under 10% and memory is about 70%. Interestingly, it doesn't do it for all apps. As example, CuteFTP worked fine.

I used your standalone support app and it created a zipped file on my desktop which is about 6.5mbs.

I FTPed the file to my website. Is there someone I can send the URL to?

  • Hi,

I have used Bitdefender for several years and have continued to have the same problem. I recently installed 2012 Bitdefender Internet Security. This continues the same problem:

bdagent seems to run almost constantly and when I look at what is going on (using application What's My Computer Doing) I see that bdagent is accessing the hard drive almost constantly. This has the result that all applications slow down while bdagent continues its access. I have tried turning off every function within Bitdefender and bdagent continues to run and access the drive. I finally got so frustrated with it that I completely uninstalled Bitdefender. I will look at reviews of other security tools to try and find one with less intrusive function.

I have seen that bdagent is the main process for Bitdefender, but it still should not be as intrusive or disk-access-heavy that it is. I would expect lots of other users also find this incredibly annoying.

    Hi :)

I think I have a solution for your case.

As the new Bitdefender 2013 product suite was released, we would like to inform you that you benefit from a FREE upgrade to the latest version.

Apart from the fact that the 2013 suite brings lots of new features and improvements, it will most likely solve any issues that you may have encountered with your previous Bitdefender product.

    Please check out this announcement:
