I Installed Bitdefender Total Security 2014 with 90 days license, it worked fine but i tried rescue mode scanning and after scanning i shut down. From that time when I turn on PC the system is always booting in the rescue mode, Windows(8.1) is not at all opening. I can open windows only using the ASSIST button in Sony VAIO. Assist button opens the Windows Recovery and there if I click Exit and Continue to Windows 8.1 then windows will open.

And also what I observed is If i tried to use Rescue Mode again then windows is opening but after reboot again rescue mode is opening. I tried using EasyBCD and there I found Windows 8.1 is set to default only. Finally, I uninstalled the Bitdefender using Bitdefender Uninstall Tool, still Rescue Mode is opening. Now I got stuck with this problem. I don't know what to do. It is very irritating <img class=" /> for me to Turn on the Laptop every time using ASSIST Button. Please help me. REPLY FAST. By the way I am not going to use Bitdefender anymore.....

P.S : I don't want to Refresh or Reset my computer.

First of all, Bitdefender is the best av out there next to Vipre and Kaspersky. I've seen the bit rescue CD wipe out things that normally couldn't be touched. So making that point, you probably just screwed something up and are blaming it on Bitdefender.

Also, refreshing isn't the same as a reset. It will only reinstall the windows installation, it wont touch your files.

Of course we do that after we try the other options in recovery mode, such as the startup repair, and cmd with bootrec commands:

    Bootrec /fixmbr

    Bootrec /fixboot

    Bootrec /scanos

    Bootrec /rebuildbcd

Bitdefender developer here. This is a known issue with Rescue Mode and we are working to fix it.

To get your boot configuration back to normal: once you are back into windows, rename the attached fix-uefi-bcd.txt ****** to .bat and run it as Administrator.

What it does is restore the BootMgr default settings to boot windows instead of Rescue Mode.

If you still experience this problem, please contact our support center, they have more detailed steps and alternate solutions for this problem.

    /applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=12688" data-fileid="12688" rel="">fix_uefi_bcd.txt

  • I need more specific instructions on how to resolve thisbecause I don't even know what to do when the computer restarts other than press F12. That brings up some menu, but I have no idea what to do at that point. What option do I select then, and what do I type, etc.

  • How do you fix this problem if you can't get back into Windows?

Hi I'm new the the forums so please forgive me if I'm doing this wrong. I have done a full system restore and erased all apps from my computer and after restart my computer still boot_s to BItdefender rescue mode and it's getting harder to enter my OS every restart(was appx 3 step now it's about 7 steps to enter my OS), I just want my computer to boot to mt OS not rescue mode, any , You say rename the attached fix-uefi-bcd.txt ****** to .bat and run it as Administrator. How exactly does one do that? Bitdefender is no longer in my registry is that going to be aproblem? I love Bitdefender and want to to stay loyal but this issue is starting to make me look else ware.(*sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place )

  • Hi

Is there a definitive fix for this error ?

Because the .bat file will fix the boot problem but that's mean it still exist some BitDefender files on the system, isn't it?

    Best Regards
