Web Resource Blocked

Hi!

I have Bitdefender Total Security 2015 installed on Windows 8 x64. I try to watch movie from Viaplay (Netflix style competitor) but I get error that subtitles can't be loaded. So I investigated this myself using fiddler and Bitdefender logs and it seems that Bitdefender is blocking some URL:s to Viaplay.

For example request to http://subs.scandi.cdn1.viaplay.com/Viapla...xbffi14_fi.sami is responded with "HTTP/1.1 403 Blocked by Bitdefender" and bitdefender logs say that "The application accesses a web resource http://subs.scandi.cdn1.viaplay.com/Viapla...xbffi14_fi.sami that has been detected as infected. The web resource has been successfully blocked and your PC is now safe.

How can I overcome this situation. I doubt that those files contain malware as Viaplay is large Scandinavian movie company and I can't get any movie to come with subtitles.

  • You can whitelist individual URLs in Protection -> Web Protection -> Whitelist if you are aware of the risks. It seems however that wildcards are not supported, so you have to add each individual URL.

The best thing to do is probably reporting a false positive here: http://www.bitdefender.com/site/Main/autom...SampleUploader/ This is the quickest way to raise awareness.

You could of course disable web protection before you watch your movie (I assume from your post that Viaplay uses a client). Again, this is at your own risk and you should definately not use a web browser during this time.

    Hi!

Thanks, I must have been blind, didn't see that whitelist button :) I whitelisted that URL I specified and now it is working. But I think that not many people spy those URL using Fiddler, so some more user friendly solution would be probably needed in future. Or at least to show user that why some URL is blocked (is it a virus, what virus etc.).

    Hello Jouni,

    Thank you raising your concerns.

From your description, Bitdefender only warns you that this application accesses an infected web resource and that Bitdefender blocks the access to that URL. This does not mean that your computer or that application are infected.

We will run some tests on the indicated URL to see if it's a FP.

In my case almost all videoclips .mp4 are blocked. It should be question "allow? Y/N". I cannot predict all url's to put into "whitelist" - it does not make sense.

  • Hi,

@ Jouni : the URL was unblocked.

@ Zygmunt : What software do you use to watch the videos? Tell us the name please.

Also attach to your reply the file events.db from C:\ProgramData\Bitdefender\Desktop\Events

    Thank you!
