Firewall Blocking Dns And Dhcp

I am using Bit Defender Total Security 2016.

I have it installed on windows 10 64bit

I started experiencing this issue at about 5:30pm EST on 7/11/2016

When bit defender firewall is turned on I am unable to reach other network devices or services over the internet. As soon as I disable it I gain access back.

When I have the firewall enabled and I have a static IP I can ping IPs but cannot resolve DNS. I have tried using google dns 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to no avail.

If I try to pull an IP via DHCP I receive a 169.x.x.x address and cannot perform anything network processes.

As soon as I disable the firewall all network services work again.

Comments

  • Once I disabled the firewall. I was able to update bit defender and I received an event stating a restart was required to finish the update. After the restart i was able to enable the firewall and continue with network services.
