Antivirus definitions between free and paid versions

Hello,

Are the definitions that are released the same for the free and paid versions?

Or does the free version receive definition updates late compared to the paid version?

Thank you.

  • Hi Member,

Updates can be classified into 2 category :

    1) Signature based - malware detection created by malware researchers

    2) Product based - product improvement

All bitdefender products are by default set to check for updates after every 1 hour. One can change the update check time interval for paid product but not for free version. Signature based updates for free and paid consumer products are same but for enterprise it is somewhat different. Sounds weird but it is true.

One example is softwares developed by nirsoft company. If suppose this company has around 10 softwares developed. So the consumer line will/ may detect only 4 software whereas enterprise version will/ may detect all the software and that too via signature based detection.

As per bitdefender malware researchers some product are only meant to affect enterprise and not consumer. Hence for those product signature based detection is created only for enterprise product and not for consumer product.

Now focusing mainly on consumer free and consumer paid product, both receive same signature database update.
