Web Protection vs Malware Scanner for Bitdefender Mobile

I hope all is well.
I have a question. So I was downloading a game from the google play store onto my android phone. For some odd reason, my web protection for my phone was turned off at the time of installation.
MY question is does the web protection have anything to do with the apps and play store? Even though my web protection was turned off, would the malware scanner still have scanned the app when it was downloaded on my phone? Or does the scanning for apps ONLY work if web protection is also on?
