Using phone as second device

I have bit defender plus and currently it's just being used on my laptop . It mentions I can use it on a second device and I would like to use it on my phone. I downloaded the phone app. And used my activation code ( The one I was originally sent) but it does not work on the mobile app.
Am I doing something wrong am I able to use the second device as my phone
