The system does not have rights to access the specified path

Everytime Bitdefender updates, it quarantines a file and i cant restore it, even though its been added to exeptions previously. I just get the message "The system does not have rights to access the specified path " i am getting really tired of this and having to redownload the file i want to keep, switching off all the protections, adding it YET AGAIN to exeptions, only to have it put back into quarantine with no way of restoring it when Bitdefender updates! it ridiculous.

  • The temporary solution I've found is to run the Bitdefender app in administrator (Bitdefender shortcut on desktop or seccenter.exe). Only then the quarantine and its file picker can select path outside C:\Users\<ThisUser>\

AGREE The Run as Admin (seccenter.exe) shortcut solution by grrotary seems to work so far. I have a legacy Chess training program called Chessimo and the Chessimo.exe was being flagged as Gen:Variant.Tedy.584

Running as Admin I could restore the file and set an exception to the program folder c:\program files (x86)\chessimo\ and restore Chessimo.exe

  • It sounds frustrating! Try running Bitdefender as an administrator, updating it to the latest version, and manually restoring the file from quarantine. If that doesn't work, disable real-time protection before updates and re-enable it afterward. If the issue continues, reaching out to Bitdefender support might help resolve the problem more effectively.
