Zepto Ransomeware

Has anyone had any experience with this?

About 4 years ago my computer was attacked and all the files renamed as .zepto

None of the files with the changed extension can be accessed. Just wondering if there might be a solution or if I've left it too late!

    Hello.

You should try the Bitdefender Ransomware Recognition Tool:

and see if you can get the appropriate decryption tool, if it exists.

You could also contact Bitdefender Consumer Support by chat, telephone or e-mail:

NOTE: Bitdefender telephone support is not toll-free!

    Regards.

  • Hi,

A quick search on Google revealed that there are currently no tools capable of decrypting files compromised by Zepto ransomware - the only solution is to restore your system/files from a backup. But then again, the best way to find out for sure is to get in touch with the support engineers.

That is why it is essential to always have backup of all your files, or at least of all your important files, just in case of ransomware attack or any other malware attack.

@Alexandru_BD Do you agree with this?

  • Absolutely. Backups protect not only against attacks and ransomware, but also human errors, hardware failure, power failure, and natural disasters. Having backups can help save time and money if these scenarios happen.

And make sure one of your backups is on a removable device besides online, like a flash drive or USB backup hard (SSD) drive. And when backed up, unmount it from the device.

All Bitdefender Home Product User Guides: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/user-guides/ Using BD Antivirus Plus along with Glasswire free.

  • To add here, since there is no decryption tool available for zepto ransomware, you can still contact Dr.Web antimalware vendor and share the encrypted files with them. If they are able to decrypt the files they will charge you a nominal fee for it.
