Thank you for your understanding.

How can I change the auto disinfection to a manual process?

Options

I just installed Bitdefender Free and during the first scan it deleted a lot of good files (e.g. java ****** files I created while learning from a Udemy tutorial). I searched in the Settings for an option to change to a user prompt disinfection after I review the scan results, but I can't find one.

I keep seeing people being advised to add certain files to the exception list, but how would I know what files Bitdefender will remove until it will remove them. And then it's too late, they're gone forever.

So any advice on how to stop the automatic deletion of files and instead let me have the option to delete or not something from the scan result will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Hello @black.mastodon and welcome to the Community!

During the scan, Bitdefender will detect and remove any threats from your system. If unresolved items remain, you will be asked to take action on them. I would recommend to contact the Support Teams, as more information might be required to resolve this. If the scan log is requested by the Bitdefender Support Team, check the article below for steps to generate the scan log and attach the .xml file to your support ticket for further troubleshooting:

You can get in touch with our engineers by choosing one of the contact channels available at the link below:

If you will contact bitdefender support, generate all the below stated three logs for better troubleshooting and resolution.

    Generate bitdefender BDsysLog: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/1922/

Generate bitdefender support tool logs: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/1733/

  • Hi Alexandru and thanks for your answer. This confirms what I was afraid of... that Bitdefender doesn't have an option to let the user choose between automatic deletion and user review. This means I'll uninstall it ASAP since it acted more like a malware rather than an antivirus.

Hi Flexx and thanks for your answer. Since you're asking me for logs while I was inquiring if a feature exists or not, I have to apologize for my lack of clarity. I was looking to enable any form of user input when deleting the "threats", but Bitdefender doesn't bother with that, it just deletes whatever it wants without any user supervision. So uninstall it is. Extremely disappointing for such a high praised antivirus.

Well, an antivirus is designed to offer peace of mind and safety and should do this without requiring user input all of the time. It can become tiresome to approve its every move and most of the time, it knows what its doing. Bitdefender will only require manual removal for infected files that cannot be resolved during scan, but you can use the scan log to find out the path to the infected file. However, the antivirus may mistakenly flag a safe website or a legitimate file as a false positive threat occasionaly. This occurs whenever a program or webpage performs an action that appears to the antivirus program to be a virus-like activity. Of course, such incorrect detections can be reported to the Bitdefender Labs and once confirmed, false alarms are corrected within hours.

Surely, there must be ways to go around this and set an exception for the java files. To do this, it will be necessary to make an inquiry to our Support Teams, who can further advise on the next steps to take.

Yes, Bitdefender is highly praised and for good reason. But this does not warrant that the solution will meet your requirements and depending on user's needs, sometimes additional adjustments have to be applied. But our engineers may help in such scenarios and you can confidently contact them to request further assistance.
