Allow One Time Pass vs Adding Full Exceptions

Most of the time, having the Web Protection warn me that a sign I am trying to access could be danger is great. In fact, 99% of the time I chose not to go to that site and will look for safer sites that contain the information I am looking for.

But there are exceptional cases (1% of the time) that a link was sent to me by a company or someone I know that in fact I was expecting or something I want to open. Right now, my only option is to add the URL to my Exceptions List, but it would be nice to allow me to view the site as a one off without adding to the Exception List. This way, if I get another link, I am still shown the concerns about the site, but I have the choice to go ahead (without adding to Exception List again).

A good example of this is having companies I have done business with send me emails asking me to take a survey but they have used something like Twilio or Mailchimp which wraps the URLs in their own URL so they can track click-throughs for analytics for the company using it. Honestly, this is (in my opinion) not harmful but by default Web Protection blocks this.

  • Hello @jnhaffey,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. Following your post here, the suggestion has been automatically forwarded to the development teams for consideration.

Bitdefender protects you against cyberattacks through a set of features that scan different areas of your device. One of the features, Web Protection (Online Threat Prevention), is designed to scan all web traffic and block any malicious content – infected URLs, untrusted web pages, fraudulent and phishing links.

Whenever you try to visit a website classified as unsafe, the website is blocked and a warning is displayed in your browser. The warning contains information such as the page URL and the detected threat.

In addition to webpages, Bitdefender can block online applications such as games, services, and tools if they access a harmful link or IP address in the background. You always get a pop-up notification “Threat detected” on your screen whenever Bitdefender blocks something.

On very rare occasions, Bitdefender may block a safe website if it exhibits suspicious behavior similar to real cyber threats. To bypass Bitdefender’s web protection and visit a blocked website that you know is not infected, you will need to choose one of the available methods listed below.

You can click “I understand the risks, take me there anyway” at the bottom of the warning that appears on the blocked website. This action will allow you to access the site only once. If you revisit the website later, it will be blocked again by Bitdefender.

You can also submit a request to Bitdefender Labs to fix the incorrect blocking of the website. Once confirmed, false alarms are corrected within hours via automatic update of Bitdefender.

Or, as you did before, you can add the legitimate website to the Exceptions list.

    Regards,

    Alex
