Scam Copilot

There really needs to be a way to disable the scam copilot. The constant popups are annoying.

  • Hi @southerndoc,

Can you be more specific and tell us to what pop-ups are you referring? Because the Scam Copilot shoud not display continuous notifications out of the blue for no reason. Perhaps you can attach a screenshot for when this happens?

    Thanks

I have moved the post to the Windows category, under the same section where it was posted in Mac.

  • I posted in the Mac category because the pop ups are happening on my Mac computers and not on my Windows computers.

It's the standard interaction window (the chat window) as if I had clicked it. It randomly pops up. Previously, support has told me this is a known issue and they are working on a solution.

Now this appears to be an unknown issue?

Please move this back to the Mac category.

  • Thank you for the confirmation. I have moved your post back to the Mac category under the same section.

  • This is the screen that randomly pops up. It happens moreso with my laptop and I suspect it has to do with opening the lid/awakening my MacBook Air M1. However, it does occur occasionally on my Mac Studio without any known trigger. I have never seen this randomly pop up on my Windows 11 computers (Dell Precision 7770, Dell OptiPlex, or Dell Precision 7740).

  • I was wondering why I do not see scam copilot on any of my installations (Mac or iOS). I have a premium account but the feature is not available on any of my devices.

The documentation states that a premium or ultimate plan is required, and I have premium so not sure why it's not showing up.

Based on @southerndoc comments, maybe it's good that I don't have it 😀

@southerndoc since you mentioned that you already contacted Bitdefender Support regarding this, did they provide any updates ?

@VineRider this is an "existing vs. new" scenario, where Scam Copilot could not be included retroactively in the ongoing subscriptions, once the portfolio was revised. So, with the changes that were applied in the new portfolio, specifically the appearance of the individual and family plans, Scam Copilot became available for newly purchased subscriptions. Basically, a transition to new plans took place, so an entirely new flow was developed and this couldn't cross paths with the previous one, if this makes sense. For this reason, Scam Copilot is available from now on, and it couldn't be added in subscriptions that were already running for some time.

Think of it as a car. You are already driving the non-facelift model, and the new 2025 model includes a bodykit that cannot be retrofitted to the previous version, because the design was changed and it no longer has the same mounting brackets. 🙂

  • @Alexandru_BD Thank you for the response. I did get an answer from support, and it is as you say. Old subscription versus new essentially.

I have a satisfactory answer so thank you for the follow up!

  • Was told that they are working on an update to keep the screen from popping up constantly, but there would not be an option to uninstall, disable installation, or in any way remove Scam Copilot.

I've since moved on to another product.

  • @VineRider yes, frankly I know it sounds a bit dissapointing, but apparently there was no other way around it, I had this discussion with another user as well, and explored all the possible scenarios but was told from the devs there isn't a way to make it available for the ongoing subscriptions, and I'm sorry for this inconvenience.

@southerndoc I regret to hear this. The thing is, the two operating systems are so different and macOS does have some restrictions for third-party developers, and in many cases they cannot mirror the exact same functions and features that can be found on Windows, when it comes to the software development. If the Support teams confirmed that the development teams are working in this direction, then this is good news, however, I'm not entirely sure why exactly it can't be disabled for this OS as well..

  • @southerndoc , I found that if you uninstall and reinstall Bitdefender, you do not have to set up Scam Copilot. If you don't go through the setup of the Scam Copilot, then the product behaves just as before without the copilot prompts.

If you do set it up, then I found that by turning off the Scam Wave alerts, that turned off the chat icon in the menu bar and that seemed to turn of the chat function unless I actually go and initiate a chat myself.
