Bitdefender Total Security 2024 disables iLok License Manager & other legitimate services

I purchased Bitdefender Total Security 2024 on 09 November 2024. Since installing it, I have had numerous problems of legitimate, harmless third-party and Windows services being randomly disabled for no reason. This issue has cost me many, many hours trying to trace the culprit. I finally found the solution today (2025-03-10): completely uninstall the interfering Bitdefender.

  1. Under Windows 11 at least, Bitdefender Total Security 2024 is incompatible with iLok License Manager (https://www.ilok.com/#!license-manager). For no reason, it keeps changing the status of PACE License Services from Automatic to Disabled. This prevents iLok License Manager from working!
I have only experienced this problem since installing Bitdefender. Even if in MSConfig or Computer Management/Services and Applications/Services, I change the status of PACE License Services to Automatic, Bitdefender keeps changing it back to Disabled.
  2. Bitdefender also frequently disables Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service, making it impossible to run MS Office applications.
  3. Sometimes, Bitdefender also disables Logi Options+, making it impossible to configure your Logitech bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

Obviously, Bitdefender should not interfere with legitimate third-party and Windows services on which bona fide software depends!

I will never purchase this interfering software again, and I advise others to avoid it like the plague.

I have requested a full refund of the purchase amount from Bitdefender, to compensate me for all the hours of my precious time their overreaching product has wasted.

  • Hi,

I think it's possible that there's a specific issue with the iLok, maybe an incompatibility issue or something like that, but I don't think the same applies with the other two services.. In my opinion, this should be further investigated by the Support teams. In the event the issue persists, you can get in touch with Bitdefender Support using this link:

    https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/help/

State your contact reason / choose request category, then choose from the available contact channels, chat, phone and email/ticket. Chat would be the fastest way to reach them.

Let us know how it goes, and if you were able to find a solution there.

  • Hi Alex,

    I was wrong.
Further investigation revealed that BitDefender was not the culprit; it was CCleaner Professional, which has a feature called Performance Optimizer, which was putting certain background services to sleep. When Performance Optimizer puts a Windows service to sleep, it actually disables it (at registry level, presumably) so that it cannot run at system start-up and cannot be launched by the application that depends on it.
Because I unjustly accused BitDefender of causing the problem, I now want to delete my original post here.
However, I haven't found a way of deleting or even editing it.
Can you help me with this?

    Best regards,

    Rob Stuart

  • While I can delete or edit the post for you, I will leave it up to @Alexandru_BD since you had a conversation with him. He will be back tomorrow.

  • Hello @robst247,

Don't worry about it, there's no harm done, you were simply trying to figure out what was happening there and I appreciate your follow up comment here.
If it's OK with you, we can actually keep this thread, maybe it helps others who may encounter this in the future, so they know where to look? Your call, but again, there's no problem whatsoever and I'm glad to hear the situation was resolved.
