New Parental Control not working with Steam payments or the "Revolut <18 banking app"

We just tried installing a (paid) game in Steam on Windows 11.

Even though we explicitly "allowed" Steam in the parental control settings we could not process a payment. We had to uninstall Bitdefender in order to reach the credit card payment screen and pay. We then had to reinstall the parental control program again.

When my son then looked at Revolut in his Android app, he could not see his latest allowances. I cleared the app cache, but it didn't help. I then cleared all the storage and account settings and tried to reconnect him to Revolut using the QR-code method.

Deem to my surprise when I saw a message that the app could not establish a network connection. This sounded suspiciously similar to how the new Parental Control work. I tried to find Revolut among the apps in content filtering, but it wasn't there. I then tried to "Add exception" for "App and web platform", but it wasn't available as a choice there either. I then tried to add "revolut.com" (and variants) as "Website only", but that didn't work either.

We had to uninstall Bitdefender Parental Control on his mobile android device, then reconnect Revolut using the QR-method and the reinstall the parental control again.

We still have to see if the Revolut app will work or if Parental Control will cut its internet connection when it tries to update his bank transactions. If not, we might have to uninstall the new parental control app completely from his mobile android device.

When trying to track down the problems I also noted there's an (i)nformational text to the right side of the text "Kid filter in ON" on the Content filtering page on Bitdefender Central. It states "Restricted access to apps, games and websites unfit for ages 7-13. You can update the settings at any time".

But I could not find a place where these settings could be changed and neither could I find a place where I could simply turn off content filtering while doing Steam transactions or trying to reconnect the Revolut app.

So in summary

  1. Steam payments for new games doesn't seem to work with the new parental control system on Windows 11. Probably due to cut Internet connection and with no way to add a working content filtering exception.
  2. The Revolut banking app is having problems with cut Internet connectivity on mobile android devices. This is most assuredly due to a cut Internet connection and with no way to even try to add a content filtering exception.
  3. Where in Bitdefender Central would it be possible to just turn off content filtering for a kid or update the age settings to something that doesn't block Steam payments or the Revolut app?

The Bitdefender VPN client is btw installed on all units, although we do not use it.

Added information: I've now verified that the "Revolut <18" app stops working on Android as soon as I reinstall the Bitdefender Parental Control app.

  • Hi @Empowered,

Judging by the information you presented here, it's possible that the site through which payment is attempted on steam is part of various categories that are not only related to steam. I think we need to find out the URL first to check exactly the domain/categories it belongs to. As you probably know by now that access can be allowed or blocked depending on a category as well. In the “Categories” section, the types of websites your child can see online are allowed or blocked by default, depending on the age set when the child’s profile was created and then you can also edit your preferences.

Pretty smart.

    Here's more information on Profiles:

Now, if you can provide me with that URL, I can check the category it belongs to and thus guide you to set it to allow, or to add an exclusion. I assume that online payments is the category and it's probably blocked, so that's why Revolut isn't working and maybe this affects Steam as well.
