Unable to connect past firewall

Just installed Bitdefender Security. I need to run ab app that accesses a remote IP address and port via a Digi RealPort Device (multi port serial adapter). If I turn off Bitdef Firewall, able to access normally. With Firewall on, app is blocked. I added app to the Firewall Rules, Allow, Network Any, Protocol Any, Direction Both. However still continues to block.

  • Additional info: Virtual com ports created by RealPort (COM4, COM5, etc) as shown in Device Manager. With BitDef firewall off, ports connect to external IP and port. With firewall on, ports do not connect. Thus my app and a second app also using these virtual COM ports, not connecting.

  • Hello @John R,

Do you have the Stealth Mode ON or OFF?

  • Stealth Mode OFF, Port Scan Off, Alert Mode OFF

I added the program which accesses the Digi virtual COM ports in the Rules, with defaults. Any Network, Any Protocol, Both Traffic, Any Ports, Any IP

In Firewall, Settings, there is a "System has been blocked". which I am assuming is the blocking of either the virtual COM ports or the IP address/port to which they are directed. The IP address/port is static. Is there someplace where I can enter to allow access?

  • John, Were you ever able to resolve this issue? I'm experiencing same problem. App works file without BD Firewall off, blocked when on.

Is there a place where I can identify what BD is blocking so that I could do exception for that app?

  • Problem solved: In Firewall/Settings, Default App Behavior, I changed the listed (Ethernet) to ALLOW. I don't know what application was affected (I listed the one i thought in the rules) but it worked! Maybe this will be a help to you.
