RAV antivirus, RAV VPN

My desktop PC was recently infected with a virus calling itself RAV antivirus and RAV VPN. Bit-defender didn't detect it even after I ran a boot scan. I'm pretty sure it was a virus because I could not remove it from my Windows 11 PC. It would let me go through the removal exercise but the RAV would come right back. I luckily got some advice from reddit and used Revo uninstaller. I know RAV is a legit program but the one I got wasn't. I didn't download it. Why didn't Bit Defender catch it ?

Whether the file is genuine or fake can only be determined if an antimalware detects it or if it was downloaded from the original source. You can also verify if the file is genuine by right-clicking on the main setup file, selecting 'Properties,' going to the 'Details' section, and checking the 'Copyright' section to see if it’s signed by the legitimate developer. As we know, not every antimalware can detect everything. Thousands of malware variants are created every day, and no antimalware can guarantee instant protection from all of them—some might be missed or left undetected for some time. That being said, the best approach is to upload the file to VirusTotal.com to see how many vendors detect it as malicious or if any do at all. If you believe a file may be malicious, you can also share it with the Bitdefender malware research team.
