How to disable scanning Recycle Bin

Every time I connect my WD My Passport to my computer, Bitdefender begins scanning the Recycle Bin on the drive. Because there are a lot of deleted files in the Recycle Bin, the scanning continues for many hours. Can scanning of the bin be disabled? How?

The Recycle Bin is located on the C drive, and its exact location is C:\$Recycle.Bin. However, since it is an operating system-protected folder, it's not very easy to add it to the exclusion list of any antimalware. First, you will need to make the folder visible on your drive.

To access the Recycle Bin folder and set an exclusion in Bitdefender (or any antimalware software), follow these steps:

Open Control Panel: Press Win + R, type Control Panel or Control, and hit Enter.
Open File Explorer Options: In the Control Panel, search for and click on 'File Explorer Options' or 'Folder Options'.
Go to the View Tab: Select the 'View' tab.
Show Hidden Files and Folders: In the Advanced Settings, check the box next to 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives'.
Unhide Protected Operating System Files: Scroll down and uncheck the box next to 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)'. A dialog box will appear asking if you want to confirm this action; select Yes.
Apply Changes: Click 'Apply', then 'OK'.

Now, you will see the $Recycle.Bin folder in your C drive, along with other protected operating system files.

Next, you can add the specific folder to the exclusion list in Bitdefender. After successfully setting the exclusion, you can return to the previous settings and check both options you unchecked if you wish and click 'Apply'

You are done! The Recycle Bin folder is now in your Bitdefender exclusion list, and this process applies to all antimalware programs available on the market.

I had asked how to disable scanning of NOT the Recycle Bin on the C drive, but of the same bin on a portable external drive that I plug in to my computer at times. Anyway, the same steps that you gave, worked to disable scanning of the Recycle Bin on the portable drive. Thank you.
