Why does my android phone calendar not sync with Google calendar since VPN was installed?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S24 phone and a Windows based computer with VPN Premium installed on both. My calendar entries on either the phone or the computer are not syncing with the other device since VPN was installed.

  • Hi,

There are a few things to check here, but first make sure you’re signed in with the same account.

On your phone, open Settings → Accounts and backup → Manage accounts and ensure the same Microsoft/Google account is present (whichever is used for the calendar on your Windows PC). On your PC, open Settings in Windows (or the calendar app’s account settings) to check this. Then, in your phone’s calendar app, go to Settings → Sync and backup, and confirm that syncing is turned on. For Windows, open the calendar app, click the Settings icon → Manage Accounts → select your account → change mailbox sync settings and ensure that sync options for the calendar are enabled. This confirms the basic calendar setup is correct and sync is turned on.

Now for the VPN part, if disabling it on your phone or your PC immediately allows calendar entries to appear, then the VPN is likely interfering. First, try a different VPN location, as some servers might block certain ports or services required by calendar syncing. This would be a wild guess. You can also use the Split tunneling feature to route the calendar app outside the VPN tunnel and see if that resolves the sync issue.

While less common, misaligned date/time settings or strict device security can cause sync failures as well. On your Samsung phone, ensure Settings → General management → Date and time → Automatic date and time is toggled on. On Windows, confirm the system clock is correct. Right-click the clock in the taskbar, select Adjust date/time, and ensure “Set time automatically” is on.

Also, make sure both devices’ operating systems and the relevant apps (calendar apps, Microsoft Outlook if you use it, etc.) are fully up to date. As a last resort, if none of the above helps, you could try removing and re-adding your calendar account on each device. This step forces a complete re-sync and often resolves stubborn sync conflicts.

    I hope this helps.
