brave+chrome's suspicious behaviour

Defender of the month ✭✭✭

I uninstalled the Brave browser using Revo Uninstaller Pro. After reinstalling it, Chrome started malfunctioning. I then deleted both browsers with Revo and reinstalled them. Initially, I mistakenly clicked on or Brave auto-opened a site flagged as malicious by Bitdefender, which was surprising since Brave Shields are regarded as one of the best, similar to uBlock Origin.

! had installed an extension called Urban VPN in Chrome, which was secretly carrying out suspicious activities in the background until Bitdefender antivirus blocked it. I immediately deleted the extension and ran multiple scans, but no malware was detected.

However, all the issues began after this. Even Proton Pass isn't functioning properly in Chrome. I suspect it might be due to the installation process, as it usually prompts for setting up a master password, which didn’t happen in this case have a look on the extension's workout :

i am still puzzled that whether i perform a clean installation of the windows or its good to go with brave and chrome anymore in the scenario.?

  • Anybody know how to get bitdefender to allow a site that it deems unsafe. I told it it's ok and it still will not allow the site. https://www.mywifiext.net. Trying to trouble shoot my netgear wifi extender.

  • Hi @Redman,

On rare occasions, Bitdefender may block a safe website if it exhibits suspicious behavior similar to real cyber threats. To bypass Bitdefender’s web protection and visit a blocked website that you know is not infected, you will need to choose one of the three methods listed below:

Method 1 – Click “I understand the risks, take me there anyway” at the bottom of the warning that appears on the blocked website. This action will allow you to access the site only once. If you revisit the website later, it will be blocked again by Bitdefender. Since you mentioned that this didn't work, move on to the next method:

Method 2 – Submit a request to Bitdefender Labs to fix the incorrect blocking of the website. Once confirmed, false alarms are corrected within hours via automatic update of Bitdefender. You can submit a sample for the website using the form available at the link below:

Method 3 – Add the legitimate website to the Exceptions list. This option is available on Mac and Windows computers. Some websites can be dangerous, so only sites that you fully trust should be added to this list. To add the respective website to the exceptions list, click 'Protection' on the navigation menu on the Bitdefender interface, in the Online Threat Prevention panel, click on Settings, then click on 'Manage exceptions'. Click on + Add an Exception, type in the corresponding field the name of the website (or the IP address) you want to add to exceptions. Then enable the switch next to Online Threat Prevention, click Save to save the changes and close the window.

    I hope this helps.
