Firewall ?

I have a scenario where I have to expose RDP to the internet. I know its not recommended but anways. Bitdefener Firewall has been VERY effective in detecting brute force type attacks & blocking them after X # of attempts. I constantly am getting alerts, as expected. I decided to change the RDP port # to a non standard port so hopefully I really don't see that many anymore. My question is will bitdefender firewall be as effective in blocking brute force attacks? Maybe there some special sauce because you guys realize they are attacking RDP (Port 3389) & changing to a non-standard port will lower the effectiveness?

thanks…

Exposing RDP to the internet requires a strong security strategy. While changing the default port provides some level of obfuscation, Bitdefender Firewall behavioral analysis and intrusion detection are still effective against brute-force attacks, even on non-standard ports. However, relying only on firewall protection is not enough. It's important to adopt a layered security approach, which should include using a VPN for encrypted access, IP whitelisting to limit access, and multi-factor authentication to strengthen credential security. Following the principle of least privilege, performing regular security audits, and keeping software up to date are also vital parts of a thorough security plan to reduce the risks associated with internet-facing RDP.
