Bitdefender Virus Scan Failed!

Hello,
today I tried the Virus recognition capabilities of Bitdefender Antivirus free and I was very dissapointed. I downloaded the EICAR test file and Bitdefender didnt recognize it as Virus/Malware. Even after a full system scan Bitdefender failed to find the EICAR test file, while AVAST antivirus was able to detect the EICAR file straight after I downloaded it.
How come Bitdefender fails to do its job???
P.S. are there other possibilities to test different security suites? like other test viruses and test malware. How can I test the Surf security functions of different security suites? Are there some kind of manipulated test Websites?
