Unable To Connect Email: Error Code 0X80070425

Windows 10 upgrade & a fresh Bitdefender Total Security 2016 install and my Thunderbird email quit being able to connect to my DreamHost site's email server. Thunderbird is still able to connect to other email accounts, such as gmail. DreamHost account email works fine with the webmail client and android devices.

I'm pretty sure it worked after the Windows 10 upgrade, but not after getting my Bitdefender working again (and upgrading from 2015 to 2016).

The Windows 10 Mail app is also unable to connect to the dreamhost account.

Prefer IMAP, but POP3 is also failing.

Focusing on establishing the account in the Win10 Mail app (to remove Thunderbird from the equation), the error I get when trying to connect is:

Something went wrong

We're sorry, but we weren't able to do that.

Error code: 0x80070425.

Some sort of firewall/certificate shenanigans, I assume.

Settings I'm using in the Mail app:

IMAP4

correct username/mailserver address per DreamHost documentation (works on Android, used to work in Thunderbird)

all 4 boxes are checked:

Outgoing server requires authentication

Use the same user name and password

Require SSL for incoming email

Require SSL for outgoing email

Any pointers?

  • Hello,

Have you tried disabling the Bitdefender Firewall to see if the product is actually the one blocking the connection?
