Time Machine Protection: /bin/mkdir attempted to make unauthorized changes to your backups and was b

On my iMac, Bitdefender periodically reports the following: Time Machine Protection: /bin/mkdir attempted to make unauthorized changes to your backups and was blocked

I backup my MacBook Pro to an external drive on my iMac using Time Machine.

My time machine backups on my MacBook Pro periodically report that  "Time Machine completed a verification of your backups.  To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you.".  This results in a weeks worth of recreating the time machine backup from scratch.

What causes the "/bin/mkdir" messages?

Is it possible that this is causing my backups to periodically start over?

Thanks,

phil

  • Hello,

Please be informed  that /bin/mkdir/ shouldn't access Time Machine backups, thus, it is legitimately blocked. This doesn't mean that there's a malicious action.

Regarding the fact that Time Machine is creating back-ups periodically, please check if you have any available space on the disk or if the disk is corrupt.

We recommend you to contact Apple for more details.
