Bitdefender breaks pCloud on macOS

Bitdefender prevents pCloud from working properly on macOS Mojave. I was able to fully reproduce this problem twice:

  • Install a fresh macOS Mojave

  • Install Bitdefender for Mac

  • Install pCloud Drive 3.7.6

  • Log in and configure pCloud to automatically log in

  • Tell pCloud not to show the welcome window at startup anymore

  • Exit pCloud (or reboot)

  • Open any application, such as macOS System Preferences or a Safari browser

  • Launch pCloud

Expected: pCloud launches as normal.

Actual: Finder will exit and will not relaunch. You can observe that all desktop icons have vanished, for example. You must click the Finder icon in the dock in order to re-enable Finder.

Additional Notes:

Curiously, the problem only reproduces if:

  • Bitdefender is installed, and

  • Any application is open. If no application is open, pCloud behaves as normal.

This problem does not reproduce with no antivirus software installed, or either of two other antivirus programs I tried. It also does not reproduce if I uninstall Bitcasa from a machine that has dozens of other programs installed.
