Google+ results in Digital Identity Protection

Since Google+ is now defunct, specifically per Google's own message when you navigate there, why is BitDefender's Digital Identity Protection module flagging it as somewhere we need to visit to check for "impersonation attempts"? Message I received per Digital Identity Protection:

Google+

We detected a Google+ Profile with similar data. It could be your profile, somebody with whom you share similarities or (worst case scenario) somebody impersonating you

WHAT SHOULD I DO (1)

Review the Google+ Profile

If it's not your own profile, evaluate if it's somebody pretending to be you. Look for both clear similarities and clear differences

It is an impersonation attempt

It is my profile

It is something else

Hi TribalWarrior. You're perfectly right: the Google+ service is now defunct, and you have no reason to worry about someone impersonating your profile there.

However, the Google+ data still exists. So if you ever had a profile on Google+, your information is still there and the Digital Identity Protection service will detect it.

If you want to download and save your remaining Google+ content you can head to the Digital Footprint section and choose "Manage your data" for Google+. If you just want to resolve the Impersonation prompt just choose one of three options presented.

  • Hello @TribalWarrior,

The service scans resources that are publicly available both offline and online to obtain information. The source is listed next to every piece of information, so you can tell where it came from and also act to remove it if you’re interested.

When Digital Identity Protection encounters a profile (usually from social networks) that has common elements with your identity but has not been confirmed to be yours, we will alert you about the possibility that a profile belonging to someone else is attempting to impersonate you. We will also display suggestions for actions to be taken in case it is indeed an impersonation attempt, as mentioned by you.

You can select one of the three available options. If you are absolutely sure that the alert has nothing to do with a profile that you had in the past, you can select "it's something else".
