BDLDaemon Issues

Hi All,

I am not tech savvy so please bear with me. On my 2015 15" Macbook Pro, the BDLDaemon Process runs all the time & hogs up around 1GB of memory.

Nothing I can do will stop this - I have tried:

Force Quitting BDLDaemon - does not work

Turning Off BitDefender Shield - does not work.

BitDefenders own guide to this issue states to turn off BitDefender Shield in the Preferences Pane & states if this does not resolve the High Memory & CPU usage then it is not a BitDefender issue & something else on the Mac - how can that possibly be when it is their BDLDaemon that is causing the very issue?

This is causing my Mac to overheat, slow down & drains my battery.

Please can someone advise me on how to resolve fully as if it cannot be solved then I will seriously consider uninstalling BitDefender & try another platform - I had got BitDefender for the very reason that it was NOT supposed to do this!

I am due for renewal & need to ensure fully that is a issue that is fully resolvable before committing to a few more years of BitDefender so that it does not strangle my Macbook all day, everyday non stop with no option to resolve matters.

Many Thanks.

I'll try to simplify the suggestions to help you resolve this issue:

    1. Update Bitdefender: Make sure you're running the latest version of Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac. Outdated versions may have bugs causing BDLDaemon issues. Update by opening Bitdefender > Update Now.

    2. Scan your Mac: Run a full system scan with Bitdefender. This helps identify and quarantine potential threats that might be triggering excessive BDLDaemon activity. Scan options are usually found in Bitdefender > Protection > Quick Scan.

    3. Reset Bitdefender's cache: Bitdefender maintains a cache for scanned files. Resetting this cache can resolve issues if the cache becomes corrupted. Instructions are available on Bitdefender's website (search "clean cache Bitdefender Mac").

    4. Exclude specific folders: If BDLDaemon is targeting specific folders causing high memory usage, try excluding them from Bitdefender's scanning. For example, exclude large video or music folders. You can find exclusion settings in Bitdefender > Preferences > Exclusions.

    5. Check for conflicting software: Other antivirus or security software running alongside Bitdefender can conflict and cause performance issues. Consider temporary uninstalling other security software to see if BDLDaemon behaves better.

    6. Reinstall Bitdefender: If none of the above work, a clean reinstall might be necessary. Uninstall Bitdefender using their official uninstaller (available on their website) and then re-install the latest version.

  • Hello @SuaveBhav and welcome to the Community.

If the steps suggested by Flexx above and the relevant article don't make a difference and you still experience overheating, slowdown and battery drain, I would recommend to contact the Bitdefender Support teams for a more in-depth analysis of the device, as more information might be required to troubleshoot this. The engineers will require logs from the machine to further investigate. Unfortunately, this cannot be achieved on the forum.

If you haven't tried this fix already, here's a good place to start:

If this doesn't help, you can use the link shared by Flexx to get in touch with the Support engineers and they will gladly assist you.

Let us know how it goes.
