SafePay VPN issues
I have ongoing issues with SafePay free VPN
Sometimes it will not open when I start 'SafePay' even though I have it set to automatically open when SafePay starts and when using banking pages. This is a concern.
I also note that recently on boot up the BD icon is greyed out and remains sayin "services are loading please wait'. I believe this 'please wait' is a long ongoing problem so don't know if this is connected to the VPN problem.

Regarding the Bitdefender icon in the systray, it's a known issue currently under investigation. After enabling the "Activate profiles automatically" feature and restarting the device, Bitdefender will show the message "Bitdefender is loading now, please wait" in the system tray. The functionality of the program is not affected, you can open the application normally, just the message is displayed.
The developers will come up with a fix that will be deployed with an automated update. This behavior has been discussed in detail on a couple of threads in the community:
Cocerning the Safepay + VPN situation you have encountered, I think more information might be required to troubleshoot this, and I would recommend to contact the Bitdefender Support teams for assistance. But first I would advise to run a product repair and only if the issue persists afterwards, to get in touch with the engineers. You can find the steps on how to do this here:
