Uninstall rootkit certificate
Hello, I was installing bitdefender and got a popup telling me that I need to close my firefox or opera to uninstall the root certificate so it can install it again, I dont really know what that means but it seemed really strange, but I panicked and think I pressed ok. Is this legitimate to the installation process or have I accidently downloaded some malware.

Sorry I'm a little ignorant on the topic, what exactly is the use for the root certificate, is it for online threat prevention security?

Hello again.
Bitdefender install their own root certificate for scanning SSL websites, as part of the Online Threat Prevention module.

Hi.
Perform a System Scan on your device and see if it will find malware or not.
Also, just to be sure, you could perform a scan with these FREE malware removal tools:
Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2020
https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/free-virus-removal-tool
ESET Online Scanner
https://download.eset.com/com/eset/tools/online_scanner/latest/esetonlinescanner.exe
F-Secure Online Scanner
https://download.sp.f-secure.com/tools/F-SecureOnlineScanner.exe
Malwarebytes AdwCleaner
https://adwcleaner.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner?channel=release
If both Bitdefender and the malware removal tools will not find find any malware on your device, then you have nothing to worry about.
Regards.
