Can BitDefender for Mac run as root so it can delete infected email files automatically?

Options

Hello,

I am using MacOS Monterey and Apple Mail along with BitDefender Antivirus for Mac version 9.2.0.12, and from time to time I get alerts that infected email files (.eml) have been discovered, but I always have to delete them one-by-one painstakingly manually.

Why does BitDefender for Mac not just quarantine them or allow me to bulk delete them?

Can BitDefender maybe run with elevated root permissions, so I do not have to click on the "Delete Manually" button, select the EML file, choose delete, enter my password, and then clean up the trash for each one? it takes forever this way!

There has to be a better way...

Thanks for any help/input.

    Hello @SemoTech,

Bitdefender cannot unpack and then repack e-mail archives which contain the EML files:

Bitdefender checks in real-time incoming & outgoing e-mails for cyber threats. It can also identify malware in email databases and email archives kept on the disk, but cannot disinfect threats that are already there. When infected items are detected inside Outlook and Thunderbird, they usually cannot be cleaned due to the fact that email archives cannot be repacked. At the end of the Bitdefender scan, you will be informed that no action has been taken against the e-mail attachments and asked to pick an action to remove the infection.

    Thanks Alexandru,

However all the info provided is about PC's (Windows) and Outlook. I am using MacOS and Apple Mail, therefore the emails detected by BitDefender are separate and individual .eml files, not a single large .PST or .OST database as in the case of Outlook!

Since these are files why can't BitDefender just just and provide an option to self-delete the infected ones?

    Thanks.

    Hi @SemoTech,

My bad, I have now realised I have given you the article for Windows and Outlook. Sorry about that.

I think the mac engineers can provide a more accurate and complete response regarding this, as I don't want to be misleading 😅

    Hello Flexx,

No email was received and I do not have a link to upload the logs!

I tried to access the bitdefender support site, but was unable to use my current BitDefender central credentials.

I was also blocked from registering for a support account on the same support site, with the message: "You have registered too many times. Registration is now locked for you. Please try again later. You can try again in 2697 minutes."

Please advise how I can access my support ticket # 1008236965 to upload the logs/info?

    Thank you.
