Folder Access

I'm having a problem using a folder which seemed to start when I installed BitDefender. I have a folder C:\Program Files (x86)\xxxxx which has been there for years, it's my application folder, it contains a text file which I need to edit. I've done this for many years without a problem but all of a sudden I'm told I don't have permissions to do so, nor am I allowed to change permissions on the folder. I found Protection>Antivirus>Settings and tried adding the folder under Manage Exceptions>Antivirus but it has made no difference. Is there someplace else that I need to add it? Or any other suggestions?

    Hi @IanB

Try deleting, removing that Exception. Then disable the the Antivirus module, as well as the Advanced Threat Defense module (just in case) add that folder again, reenable the modules, restart you PC and see if that helps.

You can also try by not reenabling them until after the restart.

    Kind regards.

  • Hi Scott, thanks for your suggestion. I have tried it out, exactly as you describe and it makes no difference. The impression I get is that something has changed permissions on many folders on the C drive changing my permission to read/execute. I can find no way to change them, everything is greyed out no matter how far up the hierarchy I go. I can only think it was Bitdefender, there's nothing else new on there and it was Ok before I installed BitDefender. Very annoyed.

Thanks for giving that a try. In that case, I would contact support. Sometimes they have more information on their end of a possible idea or course of action.

Select, How Tos & Troubleshooting→Troubleshooting and go through the prompts until you get to the black Contact Support box. You will have the the options of Chat, Call or Email. Chat is the quickest way to get thing started, phone support is not toll-free.

    Kind regards.
