Regarding the new update

Hello,

There was recently a new update with Bitdefender VPN, and ever since. Some servers are trouble, and seems like their being blacklisted from ISP's.. or they have issues on themselves. I never had these issues before the update.

Some issues

  • Failing to properly connect; when I decide to connect to the VPN, I have to wait at least 30 seconds or a minute for the VPN to find a working server, I never had this issue before the update.
  • Less websites work properly; after the update, I've noticed some issues. One of which being unable to see profile pictures on YouTube, some images are not visible. Additionally, duckduckgo no longer works on some servers. Which I had never an issue before.
  • Slow; I wouldn't say the VPN has slowed down, but rather in connecting and being able to keep connection in one server. Interestingly, whenever I switch to mobile data on my phone. Bitdefender VPN has noticeable issues trying to connect to servers (one being which I previously noted)

I'm utterly disappointed in Bitdefender's VPN service and product, I hope in the future they will update and change the product to be better. (speaking of 3 years).

For my next discussion, I will be addressing some new issues and even older (still not fixed) issues of the new Bitdefender SecurePass.

Layad N,

Thank you.

  • Hello @Layad N and thanks for sharing your experience here.

In terms of connection speed, it has been noticed that the VPN does take a little longer to initiate the connection, as opposed to how it used to work before, but afterwards it is much more stable than it was when it ran under the previous provider (the VPN infrastructure has been migrated to a new provider recently).
Regarding websites that don't work when connected to the VPN, these must be shared with the Support engineers and VPN teams explicitly, so they can investigate on a case-by-case basis. It would also be useful if you could let them know if you notice any difference when switching between protocols, especially OpenVPN instead of Wireguard and vice versa. Regarding IPs and blacklisting, that's speculative at most and also needs to be investigated punctually, for example they need to take the IPs one by one and check them, so you'll have to provide the Support teams the ones you're having problems with, and describe them in detail.

Generally speaking, there aren't any major problems from this point of view after the migration to the new provider has been completed, but there are still certain aspects that require improvement and the VPN teams are working on them.
When using certain streaming platforms, the developers are aware that the VPN is not doing as well, in the sense that on the major known platforms its doing much better, but on some small, regional ones (like Digi in Romania for example), the VPN behaves a little weaker than before.
