Bitdefender Services Are Not Responding. Please Restart...

Options

Dear support team

Unfortunately I bought BitDefender Antivirus 2010 and I'm deeply disappointed. I really don't need an AntiVirus software that is unstable and crashes!

BitDefender Services Are Not Responding. Please restart...

I'm using BitDefender now since 3 days and nos it constantly crashes in Win7. I've read that it can happen in 2009, but no, I have 2010.

If there is a simple fix, please post it here.

I haven't found the way to get my money back yet, please lead me to the right direction. I'm not paying for a software that wastes my time trying to find a way to fix it.

  • Got the same problem i think.

    Bitdefender v10 worked the whole day.

    But with the last update, i got a message that Bitdefender had an update and the computer needed a restart.

    I did that, the bitdefender icon in the tray was red and after about 20-30 seconds, it turned gray.

    When i clicked on the gray icon i got the message "Bitdefender Services Are Not Responding. Please Restart..." The vvserv.exe wasn't working

    How can we solve this?

  • yes, problem persists. Every restart it works for a couple of seconds/minutes and it turns grey.

    I use Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) 7600 , and recently BD AV 2010 has begun to show "vsserv.exe not responding" msg, it's very irritating. I have to manually restart the service, but that's a temporary solution. Please help.

    I've uploader sysdump results and BDfileinfo 2008 results. here are the links:

    post-969-1257318864_thumb.jpg

  • same here, thats why on my vista machine i reverted back to v 2008, that had no problems at all

  • I have the same problem. I has to install TS10 due to incompatibility with Win7 64bit on TS09

    I have just finished a reinstall of Bitdefender, and am now waiting to see if the problem resurfaces.

  • Hi, I've just installed Windows 7 on my computer. I also installed Bitdefender Total Security 2010, but now the icon turns grey shortly after I've turned on my computer, and the program says vsserv.exe is unavailable at the moment.

    What can I do about it?

  • theres a good few, including myself that has this problem, as you say, it's just happened after this big update

  • same problem here , reinstalled still the same after major update , was ok befor that . is there a fix for this soon, realy annoying <img class=" />

    Might be that BD is still not stable on windows 7 because mine is working without any problems or glitches.

  • I now have the same problem on Windows 7 pro 64 bit with BitDefender 2010.

    All I get is a grey circle - “Bit Defender services are not responding.” And “....vsserv.exe is unavailable at the moment.”

    Have I wasted my money?! <img class=" />

  • is it a 64 bit problem, or has anybody got this problem with 32 bit windows 7?

    Ok, this is ridiculous now...... Since I bought a licence for 3 computers, I've also installed the software on my other computer running Vista SP2 32bit, and look what happens today? ---> Grey Item, not responding bla! I before used AVG Antivirus Free Edition without any issues and that's what I'm gonna do now for my main computer as well. Since I ordered BitDefender 2010 from Herman Streets, fortunately I get my money back.

    But I certainly wonder, why BitDefender was rated in so many reviews as one of the best or best antivirus out there? What's an antivirus software worth when it suddenly turns itself off? I'm deeply disappointed by this software. I will go back to free antivirus software for sure.

    Summary:

    Windows Vista SP2 - 32bit + BitDefender 2010 --> crashing

    Windows 7 - 64bit + BitDefender 2010 --> crashing

  • I can confirm that a reinstall does not help. I got about 7 hours out of it before crashing again.

  • Same problem here, I am disapointed with my purchase also, could have had better protection from a free program.

  • Count me too. 64 bit W7 installed. Suddenly - NO PROTECTION. Extremely disappointing/unnerving. I am also thinking about going back to AVG. Yeesh.

  • After years of McAfee and poor use of system resources, I opted to go to a new AV software. I tried a few of the top ten in a Windows XP SP3 system and liked BD's 2010 interface, features and low use of resources. After a week of watching the services crash and restart, or crash and fail to restart I'm not so sure 2010 is ready for prime time. It will even fail while trying to send failures messages back to the developers. I continually got it to crash while testing the network function. Hoping to see some stability soon. I'm glad I didn't jump the gun and purchase the 5pc 1yr business pack and opted to test more.

  • i'm getting this <img class=" />

    win 7 pro 64bit

    Same problem!!! After a yesterday autoupdate BD2010 doesn´t work at all.

  • Same issue here. But I am using Vista (32), yet the same ###### !! At first this use to happen occasionally, but now its happening on almost every boot <img class=" />

  • it has numerous compatibility problems, tech support should scan supporttool logs and immidiately release update fix for Win 7 (especially) / Vista.

  • Same issue here. But I am using Vista (32), yet the same ###### !! At first this use to happen occasionally, but now its happening on almost every boot <img class=" />

    just found mine grayed out (did it during update) but go into bd folder and click on the vsserv.exe a few seconds later it completes the update and is back red again???

    also the product would update most of the time, it will check to 85% x2 then give error message could not connect,but it actually is making a connection,? maybe this problem of failed updates at bd server?

    How ever on xpsp2 x86 no probs, there was the failed updates after upgrade but by performing the fix previously posted (copy & pasting the liveserv.xml file) solved it,

    But for me at least that did not fix this on vista sp2 x64(which btw did not have issues updating ect prior to this upgrade) the previous version will work on vista, but how do you stop the major upgrade files being downloaded and installed during the hourly update, without physically babysitting it,or not updating it,?? in which case you have the same end problem an antivirus app that don't update(outdated)

  • mines is working fine just now, hopefully they've fixed this issue

  • just found mine grayed out (did it during update) but go into bd folder and click on the vsserv.exe a few seconds later it completes the update and is back red again???

    Mine goes grey 5 mins after bootup everytime !! I tried to click-start vsserv.exe. Nothing happened , BD is still grey and not providing protection. I have sent my support tool logs to BD support, hope they can solve it soon.

    Hello all,

    We are currently investigating this issue and hopefully we will release fix shortly. In case you will receive the "Services are not responding message" again, we would like you to follow the steps bellow :

    1. Open My Computer.

    C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2010

    - considering that BitDefender was installed on the default C partition

    3. Double-click on the supporttool.exe file ;

    4. Click on Next, wait a few minutes for the progress bar to complete and then click on Finish

    5. Go to the desktop, upload the report on http://www.sendspace.com/ then send me a PM with the download link .

    If there are users that have Windows Vista or Windows 7 , in the moment when they encounter this message we would like them to follow the next instructions if possible:

    1. Open Task Manager and click on the Processes tab . Task Manager can be opened in multiple ways :

    • simultaneously press the Ctrl+Shift+Esc or Ctrl+Shift+Del keys ;

    • click on Start from Windows , choose Run , type “taskmgr” and click on Ok after that;

    • right click on your task bar and choose Task Manager ;

    2. Right click on the vsserv.exe process and select the 'Create Dump File' option;

    Yup i know them all only too well,unfortunately but hey welcome to the bit defender mass beta subscribed testing suite, surely that is what this is, on a mass scale,lol not laughing at anyones misery btw but vsserv.exe errors just will not go away, i would not like to put money on it being able to deal with a nasty virus especially if it switches off on it's own,as for those who do not already know what that file is/does it is the active virus shield realtime protection

    Vista Progress Update

    Well things seem to looking up a bit, bd just updated by it's self,took longer than it used to (before this version upgrade)

    some screens:post-14196-1257427313_thumb.jpgpost-14196-1257427339_thumb.jpgpost-14196-1257427435_thumb.jpg. you can see how long that took,

    also vvserv.exe is now hogging my cpu,causing lock ups as ranges from 50% to 97% fluctuating like mad, wtf is going on?

  • i'm starting to feel that these guys don't know what is going on !!! where to start or how to solve this !! :o
  • here is my dump file from Win7 64bit

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/ro43x7

  • I had to restart the service too! Here is the dump file (compressed with rar, I've got a relatively slow net):-

  • Thanks Bit Defender. Your "major update that have solved major issues" has now caused the biggest issue I have ever had with bit defender (besides Windows 7 integration being poor to say the least). Now all three of my computers are completely open to attack and your product is now draining the battery on my laptop while I'm in college because some process keeps restarting and crashing.

    Have you ever heard of testing a "major update that have solved major issues" before releasing it? Oh well, I paid for it so now I'm stuck with mediocre (if mediocre can even describe no protection) anti-virus.

    I've always had this problem with BD, so much so that I don't intend to renew my license when it's up and I'll get something else. I'm sick of BD stopping it's services randomly, not only is it an annoyance but it also leaves my computer open to attack.

    I upgraded from 2009 to 2010 because BD was taking upwards of five minutes to get going upon boot up into Vista Ultimate 64bit. I also couldn't do ANYthing else, not even open 'my computer' until BD was properly running. 2010 seemed to fix this but still takes a little while to go from grey globe to red and for the activity bar to appear but at least I can use my computer normally. Occasionally and today just now the services decided to all stop as soon as they start and I couldn't get the scan bar to come back. Tried logging off and also a couple of restarts.

    Now I think I've found a way to manually restart the services if they stop. Closing the running processes doesn't work because BD prevents you from doing so which is really annoying. In the Task Manager go to Services and click the Description heading right click all the Bit Defender services and select 'Start Service', this seems to kick BD up the ###### and back into action but really I shouldn't have to do this, it should work right all the time.

    Like I said once my license is up that's the end of Bit Defender for me.

    While I can understand your frustration, I will submit that I've developed and used a few products out there and it's never an easy thing to troubleshoot a situation like this. Since there's so many variants of Windows on the market, building products and support models that cover everything is a daunting task. Couple that with all of the other things that can be running on the system and the problem isolation matrix can become overwhelming. I've been in this industry for over 30 years and dealing with "customer down" situations are always the worse kind of things to have happen. You have unhappy customers, product managers and other folks all asking what's wrong and the technical folks are trying to fix it. It can become a TUMS moment.

    I was hit with the VSSERV service stopping as of Monday, I reinstalled yesterday and now everything is back to normal. Yes, I had problems after re-installing but that's always a last ditch fix for me anyway. I suppose some update was pushed that caused the instability but prior to that I haven't had a problem with BitDefender.

    YMMV..

    One thing I would like to know from BD is why the MSFT Service parameters for VSSERV are locked out so we can't have it automatically restart. I guess I could go into safe mode

    and override them but if VSSERV stops I would like to have it automatically restart after capturing the failure information and sending it off in an E-Mail to BD. Why isn't it allowed for the customer to override the Failure Actions of the service?

    I guess you can put that in the product suggestion inbox.

    Hi as Someone who as experimented with this product both before this upgrade and still continuing as problems arise, what i can tell you is that firstly it is possible and fairly easy to stop all bd services,without a reboot of the pc,before they fixed the vsserv.exe some 7 days ago i had desktop shortcuts to the files needed to re-activate it,lol which obviously is not a proper solution to this problem does save having to re-boot the pc,the reason the processes cannot be stopped"killed" in task man,is because they are protected against such,because there are known viruses that could do exactly such as killing bd processes ,and would render it useless in stopping it compromising the target machine,as am sure you must of guest anyhow,

    well i don't know if everyone affected by this problem has still got such issue ,but as of a few hours ago,it would seem to of subsided,but the failing to download updates still continues,intermittently for some reason or another

  • I am also getting the grayed out globe and the warning "vsserv.exe is unavailable at the moment". I upgraded from BDAV 2008 which ran perfectly, to BDAV2010 which runs like crap. Can I just reinstall BDAV2008 and use the new key on it to renew my license or am I stuck with 2010?

    Umm, wow. EPIC FAIL, BitDefender!! I can't believe I paid 80 bucks for this P.O.S. software that commits suicide everytime it updates its components!! This ludicrous. It's been almost a week since my Total Security actually worked properly! COLOSSAL FAIL.

    I'm quite sure that if you contact customer services,explaining to them the issues with the latest product,they will give you a different license key to activate the 2008,(which btw will also work with 2009 and 2010 products, but i don't think a 2010 key will work with a older version, hope this help's you

  • Same problem!!! After a yesterday autoupdate BD2010 doesn´t work at all.

    Solved perhaps by autoupdate? I don´t know. :)

  • Umm..hello tech guys :mellow: , any development, any word would help. :blink:

  • GUYS, this is getting serious, my BD IS 2010 services stopped responding, couldn't manually restart service, had to reboot. And to think I bought this ###### thing for 3 pcs!!! Help would be appreciated at once. i did the steps you tolds us to do... it's your turn to help us. I'm using Win 7 Ultimate (x86) 7600.

I got a response yesterday to remove BD with their removal tool and D/l again from the link they sent. I uninstalled it with their uninstall tool and Wah-Lah....My PC will not boot up at all!!! Its now 36 hrs and still not a word or email from them at all. Nedless to say, this sounds like it is going to cost me more than the $59 dollars I already wasted on the antivirus that doesn't work!! Hi,

    try to get into the bios and set the primary boot priority for your optical drive. Save the Bios setting and restart with the original Windows Vista DVD. Try now to repair your system with the automatic mode, otherwise try manually with the console to rewrite the boot manager and boot sectors.

  • I found this on google and I am bumping it cause I am still having the same problem. Is there a fix for this yet or not??! I bought this product to protect my computer, if you are not protecting my computer than I want a refund for failure to provide services paid for....

  • Has there been anu progress on this problem?

    I am running Windows 7 32 bit and Bit Defender Services are persistantly unavailable. Re-installs and reboots do not change matters. I cannot get a dump file from vsserv as it is not in the Processes in Task Manager although running in Services. Curiouly the antivirus scan seems to work and it apparantly updates itself. Just whether it is really working or not I don't know. I doubt it, as the normaly red BD icon is always greyed out and Outlook has rejected the BD bar as not working.
