Hello,
Kapi187: first and foremost the ticket ID you provided me with does not exist - 20100619100161. Please double check the ID and send me a PM with the correct id.
Furthermore, as already mentioned several times on this thread, the reasons for the 'Services are not responding' error can vary from one computer to another, from one user to another. Mostly, the issue occur because of multiple security solutions installed on the same PC.
The reason why you were asked for a second log file is to check if the software was correctly removed and also to check and see if there are any conflicts causing the issue.0 -
Hello Kapi187,
Last but not least please note that we are working toward an update that will resolve this matter and we do believe that it will be resolved in the new version of the software.
Best regards,
@ DanyDan , May I inform when the update will be released ?, Or do you mean version 2011 will get the update
have this problem over a Year now with or without any other " free" adonns ,like superantispyware/anti malware bytes,
await your reply

Hello all,
We are currently investigating this issue and hopefully we will release fix shortly. In case you will receive the "Services are not responding message" again, we would like you to follow the steps bellow :
1. Open My Computer.
2. Browse to
C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2010
- considering that BitDefender was installed on the default C partition
3. Double-click on the supporttool.exe file ;
And if u don't have supporttools.exe in the bitdefender folder?0 -
And if u don't have supporttools.exe in the bitdefender folder?
Found supporttools and submitted ticket... # 201006231000775
Now what? Like everybody else so far, tell me to delete some files, resubmit the log and still have the problem? I'm waiting with baited breath!0 -
Hi Mpsmom,
Thank you for the ticket ID, you will have my answer ASAP. Please note that the resolution to the issue you encounter is different from computer to computer and from case to case, most of the times, a log is requested a second time to check and see if the suggested resolution worked as intended.

After a few months of experiencing this issue myself its time for me to say something.
If you are a pc user who only turns on your computer for short periods of time then turns it off you will be fine to use this software.
If you are a user who like myself leaves your system running 24/7 DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! look for something else.
I'm running Win 7 64bit and it is impossible to leave my system running as withing 24/48 hours the services stop. I have collegues with exactly the same issue.
I no longer reccomend bitdefender to any friends or clients as its a waste of time, unless like I have said previously you only turn your pc on for short periods of time.
Anyone experiencing this issue DO NOT waste your time uninstalling bitdefender and reinstalling. DO NOT waste your time running the support tool numerous times. DO NOT waste your time letting technical support access your pc remotely so they can mess around with registry and do basically the same as you've already been asked to do. Instead just ask for a refund and find a different package.
All the support team seem to do is look at your logs to see what programs you have running then tell you to remove things as they may be conflicting with bitdefender.
A quick note to the bitdefender technical support person that is going to read this email and ask me to submit a ticket ID which is 201006061000432 DO NOT waste your time trying to tell me its something conflicting with Bitdefender but instead look at these 13 pages full of people all complaining about the same issue. Take a look in the other language sections and note its not just english speaking users of your software thats experiencing the same issue. Now please go to the people who actually try to ressolve these issues and ask them what they have been doing for the past several months because they have clearly not ressolved the issue, instead I presume they are programming the 2011 version instead.
Even my son at 7 years old is intelligent enough to know its BROKE. The problem is BITDEFENDER 2010 conflicts with our operating systems.
We have all paid for a service which we have clearly not been recieving and it would be interesting to know if and when Bitdefender 2011 is released
1. WILL IT WORK?
2. WILL WE ALL GET FREE EXTENTION PERIODS ADDED ONTO OUR LICENCES? as we have all paid for cover from the release of 2010 to present but have not recieved the service we all expected our licence expiry periods should be extended to compensate time wasted having to put up with malfunctioning software.
I will be contacting my legal representative later today to ask where I stand legally in terms placing a claim against bitdefender not providing the service I have paid for and I have copied all pages relivant to this issue to use as evidence should I take this issue to court.
Finally I have a question to the numerous people experiencing the same issue have any of you tried any other security software and if so what do you recommend as a replacement for Bitdefender? As I'm sure that information would be more useful to myself and others than the numerous excuses we are all being fed as solutions.0 -
Last night after the evening update, all my XP SP3 computers were knocked down by BitDefender 2010 Antivirus. The pop-up alert message "BitDefender Services Unavailable" appears. This message cannot be cleared nor its window closed. The red ball in the system tray turns grey. The system becomes extremely slow, and some commands will not work. I attempted a restart as recommended, and that takes 5 to 15 minutes before the confirmation dialog appears. Then another 5 to 15 minutes before the machine actually restarts.
After restart, the system comes up normally. I then run a manual update to make sure the update has completed with no problem, and it always does. Thus there seems to be a problem in BitDefender applying its own updates to an active system. Not every update fails, but at least once a week, one of my computers fails on update. Last night, they all failed.
It has become a common occurrence for BitDefender 2010 to fail like this after an update. As I've noted in this thread before, BitDefender 2010 has a serious flaw in the update process. When it takes out all my computers at once, in a repeatable pattern, there is a systemic problem. Something is really wrong.
In reading through this thread, it appears that BitDefender is attempting to blame this on other security software. Note that in my case, there is no other security software involved. BitDefender is the only software that repeatedly fails on my computers. It's foolish to say that the problem lies outside of BitDefender. This post has persisted for 8 months, with hundreds of messages, thousands of reads, and continuous problems reported. How could anyone conclude that BitDefender does not have a problem?
I write software and administer networks for a living, so I understand that software can have problems, and they can be hard to find & fix. But denial just causes me to question competence.
In fairness, in my experience this problem is limited to the 2010 version. I had recommended BitDefender to many friends & customers, based on the good performance of the 2009 version. I have not yet recommended that they upgrade to 2010, as it still has this recurring problem. None of the people with 2009 installed have had lockups after updating. Also for my customers with the BitDefender Business Client 3.x, which appears to be based on the 2008 version, this problem does not occur.
Given that BitDefender 2010 has a known and clearly demonstrated propensity to fail after update, BitDefender needs to invest some time in resolving this problem. The software should be made so that it can either fail cleanly, restoring complete control of the computer to the user, or to roll back automatically to the state before the last update. Then this flaw would at least be tolerable, until such time as it can be fixed.0 -

@DanyDan Couldn't you have just looked for the correct ticket number using my e-mail like you have so many times in the past? How do I find past ticket #'s?0 -
I have found the latest posts very interesting.
It appears BitDefender technicians till insist that the problem lies with the installation of other software that may conflict with it.
From my experience and the experiences of my family this isn't true.
My brothers and I run identical software- Bitdefender total security, Advance Systemcare and MalwareBytes- all paid versions.
My brothers have never had a problem with 'services not responding' but for considerable months, the problem existed for me. I did not remove any programs and after 6 or so months, the problem was rectified without any direct action from BitDefender technicians. In fact their support responses were sent on weekly basis with the content not being of any assistance.
Whilst I am pleased that the problem is rectified for myself and I thank DanyDan for his well wishes, the question must be- why did it resolve itself and why can't this resolution be defined and then applied to other members?
It would be nice to just be able to run BitDefender but the reality is, and my experience is, it doesn't remove all malware, spyware (that MalwareBytes and ASC does) hence the reliance on other products.
Also, I believe if BitDefender fails to work alongside other software, BitDefender has a duty of care to warn would be purchasers that this is the case. It is not acceptable that clients learnt this AFTER purchasing BitDefender. More likely, purchasers would look at alternative programs.0 -
Hello,
@Kapi187: you have two (2) tickets open with us and you have replied to none so both were considered closed and resolved. Further to the 'services not responding' issue, indeed most of the times is related to a conflict between two security solutions or more. Also the issue be occur due to a driver issue that may interfere with BitDefender. When that driver is updated (i.e. using Windows Updates) the services not responding issue will also disappear.
Your ticket ID is: 201006191001061. Please reply to my email and send me the requested log files so we can investigate.
We are working towards a resolution so the issue will not replicate with the 2011 version regardless of the computer architecture/ OS etc.
Again accept our apologies for this inconvenience. Feel free to contact me anytime!

Grey Death Ball....how do I keep this from happening? By the length of this thread the BD team ought to have some inclination as to the cause of this issue, but I cannot find a remedy.
my version = 13.0.21.347 (i think)
I'm also bothered by the lack of notification of this event. Who knows how long I've been running w/o active BD 2010 coverage? You'd think some alert would appear when BD decides it wants to crap out. Funny though....the updater will still work....seemingly.
Would appreciate a remedy....0 -
DanyDan :We are working towards a resolution so the issue will not replicate with the 2011 version regardless of the computer architecture/ OS etc.
From that i would draw a conclusion that this 2010 product won't see the proper fix, as it has been on/off since it was released,it would seem that they are concentrating most of their efforts into the beta defender 2011 range, my advice to the devs would be not to release it as a final finished product unless it is,and has been rigorously tested first , as we the end user simply do not want a repeat of the last 2 years products and their faults some even today have never been fixed properly , but i fear that they will not learn ,as they don't seem to give a dam0 -
Hello,
@Cujo: please check your email address associated with your forum account for instructions on how to further investigate the issue you encounter.
@Davey: I can assure you that BitDefender 2011 will be heavily tested. I have personally tested the Beta version and I did not had a single time the services not responding issue.
Have a nice Sunday!0 -
DanyDan I've been asked to test the beta 2011 version. So as requested I downloaded the 64bit version, Uninstalled 2010 and tried to install 2011 but it doesn't even install as it hangs at the validation part of instalation saying no internet connection found. Pretty good start eh? I replied to the email asking me to test it using the internet connection the beta installer couldn't find to install.

After having this bug/problem for TWO versions 2009 and 2010 , I doubt it very very much it will be fixed, everyday I still have this,
Honestly believe Bitdefender dont have the manpower to fix it or just dont care. " />0 -
Well I can clearly see that I am in no way alone with this issue.
I have submitted a report ticket every time this happens, but I have never heard anything back from bitdefender. After reading a bunch of these posts, I really don't want to now either. What a headache... Remove this, try this, take this out.. blahhh blahhh blahhh.
I just figured they'll eventually fix this, so now I have grown accustomed to turning my system off every day or so which sux. Ecspecially when I left it on and come back to see my computer in 'Rape Me' mode!
It looks like that fix is not happening anytime soon. 2011?? C'mon, if you say you can fix it in 2011 edition release something now.
I feel for you as an individual DannyDan. I would not want to be the scape goat moderating this thread.0 -
This has been an ongoing issue with BIS 2010. I have formatted my hard drive and installed a fresh copy of windows xp with all the latest updates and I still have problems of BIS 2010 not responding randomly. This is one reason why I have not recommended this product to anyone.
Who wants an internet security to stop working while your not at home and you have important files on your pc? Not me and hopefully their 2011 products do finally resolve this issue.0 -

Just read on the 2011 forum the same problem STILL EXISTS !!!,
And am sure as in both the 2009 and 2010 Version its gonne be the biggest topic with 10000 s visitors....., Unbelievable it still isnot fixed ( to be honest didnot think it would though, just dont have the faith anymore),

it's become a hobby of mine to check back on the bit defender forum every few weeks just to see if this epic not responding thread will ever fall off the front page, but it never does. Here it is back on top of the front page once again. I can't wait for there 2011 version to come out and the first thread in that will be from someone saying they got the gray ball. It should be priority number one to fix the not responding issue once and for all but they won't.
I'm sure that in the future they will eventually figure it out. I can picture my son 20 years from now talking to me about AV programs and saying he bought bit defender and actually got a red ball and it stays red. Then I can tell him he is lucky that he never had to live through the grey ball years were the ball was red when starting up just to tease you before turn gray like the death star.
In an effort to save everyone time and frustration these are the only two ways to avoid the dreaded gray ball again. Anything else will just be a temporary fix.
1. After installing Bit Defender turn off your computer and never turn it on again.
2. Don't install it in the first place.
Follow those two steps and I will guarantee you never get gray ball again.
Looks like I nailed this. First post in the 2011 forum was a not responding thread. I guess there is always hope for 2012!!!0 -
If BitDefender do not fix this issue it may well be the nail in to coffin of the whole company. I am sure I am not the only IT spet who uses this product in the office or home. I want to see a formal statement by the company regarding this and related issues very soon indeed. Even an honest we can't fix it would be better than the current complete lack of information on the issue. BitDefender, if you can't fix it, subcontract out to a company that can or you will go under.
If it were not for this and a few other perpetual issues I'd be raving about your product, in business and personal circles, but the fact is I can't! I need to be using a product that I can recommend so that I have something I can recommend to clients, and one that I am happy to be administering for them.
FIX THIS ISSUE!0 -
HI
Me again. I can see that no one has found a solution to this problem...i am also very disappointed that there hasn't been a true solution to this problem since i posted my 2 cents one months ago on another post. And their solution was also the same....they were working towards the next product to fix it. I really don't trust this product and the customer support. It is really ###### me off that they sound like they really don't care about their current customers.
I am starting to think I should be demand a refund straight from their companies pocket. But I going to give them a 3rd chance in hopes they do find something in the next month or 2. But if nothing I will be asking for my money back.0 -
I just got Bitdefender a few days ago.. and it gives me BitDefender services are not responding after some uptime. I don't want to restart my computer, I rarely turn it off for various reasons. Being forced to restart due to Bitdefender not responding + eating 50% of my CPU power when it's not -.-.. really kills it. If it's not fixed (doesn't seem like it) I'll just run back to free Avira which worked fine for me for a year -.-. Don't know why I changed again.

Hello,
I am also having this problem.
At random times Bitdefender stops responding and the icon greys in the taskbar. I have to restart the computer to reenable bitdefender. Can you please advise as to how to correct the problem?
I am running XP Pro 2002 SP2.
Thanks,
Todd0 -
well....first post requesting help with this bull** on Nov 3 2009, 09:40 PM, and still nothing....logic would dictate....with 100's of users stating the same ###### problem of non-responsive software (requiring a restart) only having it to happen again, that problem is the software. seriously folks...the problem is BITDEFENDER AND NOT our computers, so please (kindly) fix this issue. this is really getting old....FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow...I just love how they just figure that if they ignore us it will go away. It has been about 2 months since any tech support have given a reply or any suggestions about how to solve this issue. Has anyone heard from them?

This and some other problems that will occur usually following a update of signatures bitdefender will sometimes crash /stop although all it's required processes are running(appear to be in task manager) also sometimes the problem is so bad that the computer can sometimes become totally non responsive too, and then i have to power off and power on the pc to be able to use it again the bit defender process responsible is the vsserv.exe this issue hasn't occurred on my pc for some time, until recently so i think it is the update files that it downloads and that maybe it is for some reason unable to install/replace them and stop's
I have also noticed that the vsserv.exe will randomly start to continually access my hdd for no apparent reason, this will sometimes happen even with game mode active, causing my game to become really slow and stop loading maps ect until i kill vsserv.exe
nothing on my pc has changed recently i know this is down to bit defender software that they have so far failed to fix, and now that they have a new version they wont fix this,
And from what i have read about the 2011 products i'm in no rush to even try them, bit defender has for the past 3 years at least released software that seems to have these re occurring problems though they nearly fixed the 2008 version
And before someone says that other software vendors have issues as well, maybe they do, but they seem to fix them unlike bit defender0 -
Further to last post i set updates to manual, and i can confirm that this VSSERV.EXE problem is definitely associated with the update and installation of the downloaded files but is random in it's occurrence
But when it does occur it does so within around 1min following the update sure enough the well known sequence happens that being the service are not responding b/s message followed by the grey ball (task bar icon)and should you have the activity window set to show you get a red x in each box,
Sometimes vsserv.exe will also start to hog your CPU upto 50% i have observed, but sometimes it will paralyse your system leaving you no other alternative than to use your power on/off button, which i'm sure can cause data loss or corruption of that data on your hdd
and in the event of being able to open windows task manager you are prevented of stopping vsserv.exe as it is protected, well thought out that was don't you think? and i bet they have done the same flawed thing with the latest version 2011, which doesn't appear to be any better than this version, lol
here is the list of file names from the update that cause vsserv.exe to hang today:

Is there a fix for this issue or not? I cant see why everyone have to upload files and such?

What update should i have to fix it, i shouldt not have to do all this work to fix this as the problem have been since atleast last year and should have a fix!!0 -

I don't know how many people this will help or not but I believe i fixed the problem with mine shutting down... my bit defender did the same thing everyone else was saying even when i did a fresh install on my computer but I think I found out that the reason it was happening was even though i had uninstalled the old antivirus that came with the computer it still left files in the registry behind which caused confusion in the program. I just used a registry cleaner and error fixer and it hasn't crashed once in three days since! i highly suggest crap cleaner it is an awesome freeware that i've been using for years which has a reg cleaner and temp file cleaner which helps a lot.

i hope this helps some people i myself was exstatic to find out it had worked!0 -

Hi JeffW,
You are right, but Ccleaner (or other) is to be used with care.
Right for the "cleaning" and the "deinstalling" tools, I'm more cautious concerning the "registry" option.
I've been using CCleaner for a few years now, and keep on updating it on a regular basis.
However I consider now it could be dangerous to move to the registry folder and scrap every dlls that look to be orphan.
Why?
Because I saw that on a freshly formatted machine with BD IS 2010, CCleaner considers most BD files "orphan" and bad, however they are not! Now I check twice before cleaning the registry basis...
(Besides, we could never see the bad results in the minute, so beware...)
I suggest to everyone to scratch only orphan files belonging to softwares we are sure we deleted.
Sometimes, we need to reboot in safe mode, and even to fumble directly in the registry basis to get rid off old programs (I did it to get rid of an old Nero version that prevented me from installing another) but I took time to check the files I suppressed.
Let us know if your computer keeps running smoothly after your cleaning (you saved the old config, I guess?)
Have a nice day,
L.0 -
That's not a bad idea JeffW, old Anti-Virus entries could be causing problems but it really seems like trail and error.
I have three PC's running BitDefender 2010 Anti-Virus. Two with Windows XP Professional and one with Windows 7. The one with Windows 7 never ever has this issue and one of the PC's with Windows XP Pro also hasn't had this problem. But the other Windows XP Pro PC has this error a lot.. so it seems it's really what you are running on your system ie software and/or hardware.
Lots of trial and error it seems but I will see if I can find a 'solution' and report back. Can't believe this hasn't been resolved as the whole point of having an Anti-Virus is for it be functioning!
Surely this is a priority bug..0 -
To be honest.. I just started reading this thread now(1st page), and then I noticed it started Nov '09! Absolutely nothin' new with this BD/JOKER software. The fact I've only come on here now masks the fact that I've had this issue for about 2 months.. No, wait a minute.. Ever since I bought this excuse for a security package 2 years ago..And upgraded due to rubbish and lies posted by the staff here.
I've basically been too depressed to even come onto this forum(again) before tonight. I had hoped a miracle might take place and they'd actually fix it.. Yeah, ok dude.. Sure thing, whatever! Honestly, I'm not even here now looking for answers. I don't even want to complain.. I just keep typing.
I've had so many issues with this software, it's quite unreal. This, of all things running on your pc, should be stable BUT.. ITS THE MOST UNSTABLE SOFTWARE I'VE EVER PURCHASED. . . .EVER!!! <---- Even bigger caps woulda been nice there. . . Yeah, I coulda made 'em bigger but.. I just keep typing.
Anyway.. I couldn't care less if this problem ever gets sorted because I'm absolutely done with this "JOKER SOFTWARE"!!!
I will however just say, that I'm running Win7 64bit. Only so you guys that may cling on to this "JOKER SOFTWARE" may have a chance to get to the bottom of it . . . HA!!!
As I've said... I've not read past the 1st page but, it's probable that you've been told BD11(JS11) will solve all your problems. Maybe it will(if it was even said).. I've seen it all here before.. IT WILL NOT - is my opinion.
Just for the laugh.. I'm gonna upgrade to 11(free i believe) and see how I get on. Then I'll count down the remaining days I've left with this subscription, and pray that i go into a coma and wake up with zero days remaing, and a renewel notice flashing on my unproteceted machines screen. . .
Giblets has never once before been a complainer in his life.. Quite the opposite in fact.. He just no longer cares!
Kind regards,
Giblets.0 -
Just read the posts above mine.
I've never had any other security software on my machine, yet this still happens. I do however have Ad-Aware running.
Good luck on your quest for answers lads.. You'll need it!

Giblet i am with you. Everything has been tried.... this hasnt been the first post of this problem. I wonder if they will accept our demand for a refund if we all demand.

Hmm, what's everyone's BitDefender Antivirus 2010 Build??
Just realised the two working Bitdefender Antivirus 2010 that don't get this error have a Build of 13.0.21.347 and the Bitdefender Antivirus that receives this error has a build of 13.0.17.343.
I could be onto something here..
Will try and update the Build and see what happens. I think I'm being a little optimistic though..0 -
I really like BitDefender but I've had to move AV's.. there's just no fix for this and the developers don't seem to care.
Ah well..0 -
Well I am in the club now. The same problem has happened to me now just this morning. BD grays out. Services not responding. I have restarted several times and no help there.
Searched the internet for a solution and here I am.
As one person stated, this is an old thread and there are no solutions posted.
I do not have time to deal with a product that does not work effectively and has a problem that is several years old and still causing problems. This is my second renewal, and at this point, my last.
Now I have to contact the people I recommended this product to and see if they are having the same problem. And if they are, I am going to recommend they switch to another product when their subscription runs out.

Hello everyone,
An update to resolve the 'Services are not responding' issue has been released several minutes ago, only for the 2010 products. Right click on BitDefender icon and select 'Update Now'. Install the latest update and restart the PC.
For those of you using a PC that meets the system requirements needed by BitDefender 2011 I strongly recommend you to upgrade and use our latest version. Please check the link below on how to upgrade:

If you need any further assistance with the upgrade please create a new topic and I will assist you as soon as possible.
My BDF can't even be started. How the heck can I update when my BDF says the vserv doesn't work and it's like that for at least an hour...0 -

Hello KarlPaymah,
What are your computer information ? Please mention the RAM and processor type. Please read my post again regarding the upgrade to the 2011 version, this time in the Romanian forum section. Double posting will not get you an answer faster.
Try to right click on the BitDefender icon and select UPDATE NOW. Wait for the process to complete then restart the PC. The issue should be resolved. If you receive any error at update please post a screenshot.

OK...
First: I don't want to upgrade. Not now. Right now I just don't have the time and the will.
Second: I have 2 GB of RAM and my processor is an Intel Core Duo T2350 @ 1,86 GHz.
It's a laptop.
Third: I cannot update. As you saw in the screen shot, no function of BitDefender can be accessed. I already posted a screenshot. Just look at it, and probably it would be clear to you that no BDF services are actually functioning.0 -
Hi Tazzietech,
Please read my upgrade post careful. You need to use the BitDefender Uninstall Tool to remove all traces of Bitdefender from your PC then restart the computer.
To stay on the safe side after you use the tool and restart the PC, run a registry cleaner (i.e. CCleaner, Argente) then restart the PC a second time.

I can confirm that the last update has resolved the issue.
A couple hours ago on 3 of my computers (2 Vista, 1 XP) BD services got suddenly turned off, causing 2 of my computers to freeze. Two different system restores (on the same computer) were unsuccessful, but the problem was solved by the last update. Thank you.0 -
Hello everyone,

Confirming that the above process worked for me to resolve the issue. Running BD Internet Security 2010 on Win XP Pro SP3.
Folks, I'm not in any way demeaning anyone who has posted here with the problem but actually I think BD responded pretty quickly to resolve the issue. I know it's disconcerting to many to have a problem with software and not have a clue as to how to fix it. I also agree that it is waste of one's time to have to correct an issue that was caused by the software itself. That being said it took me all of a 1/2 hour to discover the problem, attempt a restart to resolve it, failing that to search the internet for a solution, finding the solution on this forum and solving the problem.
I think that many of us have spent a lot longer correcting problems caused by other vendor's software update issues. I have found that BitDefender, for the most part, is very responsive to customer problems and try's to resolve issues as quickly as possible.
This is obviously my own opinion and I hope everyone who has been affected by this issue is able to resolve it successfully.0
